I am about to start a new campaign that will at least begin with Kingmaker #1, however we will be using the slow XP progression and I am looking for some low level adventures to fill things out.
I plan on having the PCs first prove that they are worthy of a commission to explore by gaining favor with some patron. Any suggestions on what kind of adventure that might be?

Could be something pretty straight forward. There are some humanoids that have been raiding a nobles land. Track them down and get rid of them. Would give them a tie in to be supported by said noble.
Could be something a little more involved. Recovery of a magical item for a noble or person of importance, maybe a powerful merchant. This is a mid-powered magical item, beyond the power of 1-2nd level PC's, but is buried away in a crypt or hidden in a swamp and the location has just been discovered by this person and needs them to recover it.
Both of these could be expanded upon to be more in-depth. Perhaps the players find out that the humanoids are really human raiders in disguise, being used by another faction in Brevoy. Context for upcoming issues at home...

The Party Origins from HERE can serve as seeds for mini adventures.

I'm doing the same thing, so I'm in the same boat.

Just a thought.
Edit: I liked the idea so much, I had to add the spoiler tags to keep my players from reading it. I think I'm going to use it.

bookmarked to read later. I am doing the same thing. Looking at lots of personal side quests for my players.
Side note: I haven't finished reading the entire campign arc yet. My players are thinking of being lesser sons of nobles who are siding with the missing king in Brevoy. Any problems with storyline caused by them being related to nobles involved in any upcoming civil war?

Started yesterday, with the city filled with adventurers trying to get 1 of the 4 writs of exploration. Various games were arranged to keep the peace. One of the PCs won an throwing contest with 3 crits with throwing axes, another squeeked a victory in a close story telling contest, and the barbarian cracked a rival's skull in a bar fight. This, and other things, attracted the attention of a minor noble who was looking for the right company to back. She asked them to assist a friend of hers, a poor widow herb gatherer who lived in the woods. On the way they were ambushed by the buddies of the guy with the cracked skull (who have another agenda as well, but the PC's don't know that yet) and were victorious, gaining 4 combat trained horses in the process. Later they dealt with the dire boar that was ruining the widow's herbs - thanks to some very smart tactics and pole arm, even if the sorcerer got stupid and dropped to -4 HP. Turns out the widow was in fact a witch and the boar was needed to divine the future for their sponsor. They returned to the city on their new horses, after some recovery time sped along thanks to the witch. Their sponsor promised to use her influence to get the PCs a commission to explore, if they would lay low for a few days. SO we ended with the PCs hiding out in the upper room of a stables waiting for the summons that will, perhaps, secure their future.

Greetings, fellow travellers.
I run my PCs through Falcon's Hollow (free pdf here at Paizo) and set it south of Gronzi Forest in the foothills of the Ice Rime Mountains which let them start at Lvl 2.
Also, I told them in advance, that the Stolen Lands are teeming with monsters, so they were prepared to have more than one random encounter per day (beefs up XP quite well).
Another thing I will add is "Realm of the Fellnight Queen" to put in between #2 and #3 (rather mid than low-level).
@ Snow Crash: I didn't allow any ties to any of the noble houses of Brevoy in my campaign, but that was just because I wasn't up to the task of creating enough depths to the upper echelons of society. The Player's Guide for Kingmaker even has a trait "Nobleborn", so I don't see any problems. You will encounter some nobles later

I like to start out my campaigns with a short 0-level adventure to introduce the characters into their setting, inform them experientially of what the atmosphere and events are like, and have them get a feel for playing their characters without their feats and spells. So far it has worked very well, so I chose to do the same thing with Kingmaker. For a 0-level adventure, I selected a module from A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying game called Wedding Knight. The characters were all between the ages for 13-15 and attending the wedding.
The storyline revolves around two feuding noble families who are cementing a very new peace treaty with a marriage. Politics, consipracy, treachery, and lies abound, as you can imagine if you know anything about ASoIaF setting. Since three characters chose nobility and the rest common origins, I sprinkled the characters on both sides of the quarrel and had them all meet at the wedding. It worked quite well, with different groups finding different lies and plots and unraveling them, often stepping on each others toes or interfering.
Thanks to the efforts of the characters, the wedding went off successfully and the massacre was avoided. This backstory helped set the stage for all sorts of sidestory events that I plan to sprinkle throughout my game to sort of fill in slow time periods in the game. Since I made sure to introduce all sorts of noble and important NPCs at the wedding, many of those characters will reappear as protagonists or adversaries in the future, which provides lots of hooks for adding adventures in.
If nothing else, I highly recommend this adventure to anyone thinking of running kingmaker as it has useful information for how to run a politically charged noble event, full of intrigue and secrets.

I'm looking at the first couple sections of Burnt Offerings relocated to a village in Brevoy to be my Kingmaker campaign opener. Burnt Offerings is the best 1st level adventure since Whispering Cairn and, since I don't see myself running RotRL *and* KM, I'd hate to see the goblin battle go to waste.
So, the half-baked plan now is to have the PCs come to the rescue of their town when it's invaded by goblins, maybe even police the place for a bit while the constable goes for help ('cause those parts are good too), and then receive word that their rescue of he-who-was-Aldern-Foxglove has not gone unnoticed by the Swordlords.
