So, I was just wondering, for those of you who have finished running/playing 'Souls for Smuggler's Shiv', how many session did it take to play the whole book?
4. We didn't hit everything in the book, either, and the npc interaction was minimal. Easily 5 or 6 sessions on that goat-infested island if you really work it out.

Five sessions, 50 days on the island, about 2 diseases contracted and cured per character, including red drip, boot soup, malaria for me and fire gut for the paladin, twice. Didn't hit everything in the AP, the paladin still hasn't gotten to eat the many bazillions of crab that infest it, even though its his favorite food. Explored about half the island... *shrug*

Just as I thought. Are 4/5 sessions enough for going from level 1 to 4? After playing the first session, it occurred to me that it's very possible the PCs reach the cannibal camp way before 2nd level, thus finishing the adventure before 4th level. On what level did you finish the module?
As I don't have any PC with item crafting feats, I was consider not giving them XP and just telling them to level up when they reach the part of the story the book says they should level up.
Thanks for the replies!

I have 6 (sometimes 7) players and they made a bee line (more or less) towards the cannibal camp. I used the fast XP progression and it worked out well. They were 2nd at the cannibal camp and 3rd by the time they hit the temple. They made 4th after finishing the temple. Note that I did scale encounters up (additional combatants and max HP) to accommodate the large party, so that added XP as well.

Over the course of 5 sessions lasting 3 hours apeice, my party beelined it to the temple (they were determined to hug the coast against all odds, even making a raft to cross the SE bay). I let them have access even w/o the cannibal camp, and the beat the mod at 2nd level.
Only 1 NPC was lost to morale failure. Lots of diseases though. Missed a huge chunk of the book's content.

I think it's too many levels too fast. Finished at Level 4.
I think it was 6 seven hour sessions. Four PCS. Total time on the island was slightly over 60 days. They had the island secured slightly over 30 days though. The additional month was waiting for rescue.
The party was extremely smart. They explored a section of the island, then would move the camp up into the "safe" explored zone usually the next day. Rinse, repeat. Party hit 95% of the island and pretty much took out almost every large predator around, 1 PC death, 2 NPC deaths, several close calls, one PC got gnawed on badly twice, 3 diseases Vijali(PC) got brain worms from a zombie, Gelik (NPC) got malaria, and Adam Smith (PC) had cholera. The temple took an entire session alone as small as it was.

My group hasn't finished the adventure yet, we are heading into session 4 and only one of the PCs is level 2 at this point (assuming no one dies in session 4, they should all be lvl 2 by the end of it).
Also my PCs are being somewhat methodical, clearing the next chunk of the island, moving camp, rinse & repeat.
I expect things to pick up when they start meeting some of the cannibals. :)
Assuming of course that they manage to survive the jungle goats... :)

Wow, I am really amazed at how few sessions some of you took to finish Smuggler's Shiv! My group (4 players and a DM) meets every Wednesday from 8PM to midnight, and it has taken us almost a year of weekly sessions.
We did some roleplay, but I guess more than most. We did search most of the island and about half the shipwrecks, though.
All the party members survived, as well as the NPC castaways.
