3rd party stuff and you

Advice

If I took a class published by a 3rd party publisher, and tweaked/and or modified it using similar ideas, leaving some of the idea intact or adding new ones, is that something I can post here, or is taht in violation of copyright? How far does OGL go?

I'm pretty sure for restrictive licenses you can bypass them by (A) changing at least 20% (B) being able to prove you came up with the idea independently (DOES NOT WORK WITH PATENTS) or (C) make it a parody.

Not sure about OGL. I was under the impression that that license means "Use this for whatever you want." but does not extend that protection to things that are based on it.

Standard IANAL disclaimer applies.

I Am Not A Lawyer? LOL

Well...ok. I'll just throw some stuff out there then...
I bought the .pdf from Super Genius' The Archon a while back.
As I read it, I kept thinking this reminds me of a bladesinger...
So i tweaked the fluff, changed up some of the mechanics (to tone them down a bit) and replaced stuff with fencing, mainly parry and riposte from the Duelist. I like what I came up with, and I know alot of people liked the bladesinger kit from 2e. Figured I'd post it and see what ppl thought, but not if I'm gonna get sued over it ;)

IIRC it was stated that somewhere that game rules weren't possible to copyright, only that which they are meant to represent are (ie fluff, not crunch).
Either way, sounds like you've changed it quite a bit so it's probably safe to post. Of course, best thing is to ask the guys at Super Genius first. If they give the okay then you're all good regardless :)

Easiest way to be sure: ask the publisher themselves. We all hang out here and as far as I know, we all have websites with contact info on them. We're very much average gamers that are giving publishing a shot. Heck, a year and a half ago, most of us weren't even in business.

Well they all have profiles here but no contact info...

which makes sense, really.
