A player of mine has really been wanting me to come up with something on this, so I thought I'd query the board for ideas.
I am currently running Council of Thieves for them. As a giant city-based campaign, it made sense to present costs for renting/buying homes. I forget which thread I got the information from, but it was based off of Korvosa prices (kind of, I think) to give me the following:
Having residence for sale in the Blade Sector is a rare event. Even rarer in the Crown Sector. There are no rental options here.
Ownership
Manor: 160,000 gp or more
House: 100,000 gp or more
Townhouse: 80,000 gp
Apartment: 16,000 gp
Treasure Sector
This relatively new part of the city has become the home of some of the finest stores and theaters in Westcrown. Items of value can be found here, but as such the land tends to be costly
Ownership
House: 45,000gp
Townhouse: 35,000gp
Apartment: 20,000gp
Rent per month
House: 200gp
Townhouse: 150gp
Apartment: 100gp
Coin Sector
Home of the new rich, the Coin sector has grown to be the seat of the rising merchant families, and groups that don’t stem from noble houses.
Ownership
House: 30,000 gp
Townhouse: 20,000 gp
Apartment: 15,000 gp
Rent per month
House: 100 gp
Apartment Suite: 50 gp
Scribe Sector
This is the heart of Westcrown today. The majority of the middle class make their homes here. Plenty of shops and business dot the streets. Outside of the Coin Sector or Westcrown Island this is the best lit place at night, though still dangerous.
Ownership
House: 17,000gp
Townhouse: 10,000gp
Apartment: 5,000gp
Rent per month
House: 75gp
Townhouse: 50gp
Apartment: 25gp
Flat: 15gp
Blood Sector
Home of the old slavery trade and still home to much of the slaughterhouses in the city the Blood Sector runs lower in price then Hope’s Altar. It is also less light then much of the other cities and patrols in the area are less frequent.
Ownership
House: 10,000 gp
Townhouse: 8,000 gp
Apartment Suite: 3,000 gp
Rent per Month
Apartment: 15 gp
Flat: 10 gp
Studio: 5 gp
In any case, I was curious on two things.
1. In the world of Golarion, whether Korvosa or Westcrown, how big do you think certain types of rentals are? Obviously an apartment in a rich sector is going to be better then an apartment in a poor sector, but still, what is the general size or number of rooms? I don't really know what a frame of reference is, my only experiences are from California and Washington, and neither have been in big cities. Nor do I even think that apartments in New York are the same, since Golarion is based off more medievally stuff. Also, Westcrown is really tightly packed.
2. The second one isn't really Golarion specific, but more of some good rules to use when building a home. The "Stronghold Builder's Guide" is the only resource I have right now, but frankly... it's not that great. The prices seem *way* too high for a lot of things (a small bathroom is a crappy tub and bucket and it costs hundreds and hundreds of gold). Is there anything else like this resource out there that people can recommend? Maybe for Pathfinder?
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks!

I'm honestly not all that certain on prices, but I think that you have them too high since they're based on the hotel prices which are generally ruinous and not that realistically calculated.
The other thing is that you've got an overly modern division of places to live. There would be, for example, boarding houses, of the old sort where you got "room and board" where "board" meant the dining room table and the lady who ran the boarding house gave you one or two meals a day. Those were in existence in the US up till at least the 40s, and still vaguely exist as bed and breakfasts, but aren't generally catering to students. And there's still the phrase "boarding house reach" in the language.
The other thing to think about is that if you have a house of a certain size, it is expected that you will have servants and places to quarter them. That will be part of your expenses there.
Furniture? You can rent things furnished or unfurnished and also buy furnishings. It depends on what you're buying and where, honestly.

I would recommend "Red Dragon Inn: The Guide to Inns and Taverns" by Slugfest Games. It has a lot of resources when it comes to basic furniture and living accommodations.
