It’s been almost two months since our Iron GM event at Gen Con Indy 2010. We’ve been busy ever since, working diligently to bring you a circuit of Regional Championships hosted by gaming conventions around the US. The prize support at each con will be mythic to the tune of thousands of dollars in swag in for GM and players.
Our next stop… NeonCon! Saturday, November 6th at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Come hang out with us, roll some dice, and REGISTER NOW!
Any questions? Ask away.
How about some copy from our site instead, you ask? No problem!
Think you’re the best Game Master in town? Prove it!
Iron GM is the national tournament that turns adventure-making into competitive sport. Game Masters clash in a challenge of wits, stamina and creative potency for prizes and a title shot!
Players, Looking for the Hottest Game Around?
Players, reap the fruits of battle as your GM fights to give you the greatest game of your life! Sit in judgment – only you can decide if they are Iron!
How’s it work?
GMs are randomly assigned to a table of Players. Next we reveal our three secret story ingredients. At Gen Con Indy 2010 our three secret story ingredients were Bodak, Banishment and Boudoir.
GMs have sixty minutes to craft adventures, placing the secret ingredients at the nucleus of their games, while Players have sixty minutes to build characters. After hours of thrills, Players rate GMs on special scorecards using tournament-tested criteria.
Iron GM’s default game system is 3.5 OGL, but you are welcome to substitute an alternate game system if the Players at your table unanimously agree to the change. Just arrive, prepped to the hilt and ready to run 3.5 OGL.
You want prizes?
Prizes for GMs and prizes for Players! The GM crowned victorious at each Regional Semifinal wins a FREE trip to the Gen Con Indy 2011 Iron GM World Championship!

Cool
Thanks!
We're talking a lot of Cons, trying to get these events running around the country.
Relative to where you live, what's the closest big gaming convention out there in the Middle, CJ? Big meaning... expecting 1000 attendees or more?
I ask because right when I think I've compiled a thorough list of gaming conventions around the world, someone lets me know there's a sizable one that didn't make the wikipedia list right over yonder. I had no idea there were so many out there and that they were so well attended. Glad to see signs that the pen and paper gaming hobby is alive and well!

Daigle, dude - one of my favorite parts of Iron GM includes the intermission with Adam "King of the Monsters" Daigle doing Monster Charades during the break. How the heck that guy in the crowd knew you were miming an invisible stalker is beyond me. I love hosting this with The Jade. So fun, and now get to do it in Vegas. I'm stoked!

I would guess there would be one in either KC or OKC, but the real ones are all in Dallas. Which would be fine for me to travel to save my vehicle will not currently make the trip. I used to go to Dallas once a month or more, 12 years ago. Before the kids got big. Fun trip and gaming both there and along the way. Larping in Oklahoma when Midnight at St Gregory's was going on. As well as Nero larp in Dallas.
We did have a good one here in Wichita but it has died a slow painful death. In its shadow we have a sizable anime fest, the last few years. While I did hang with some of the Anime crowd back before it was cool, just can't stand the mobs a emo teens dressed a pikachu. It was hard enough to go to my sons high school when they did a big fundraiser for the school clubs. My oldest son is part of the DND club that I was a founding member of. Ah how times flies.

Do you happen to remember the names of those Dallas conventions? I only remember finding videogame conventions in the area.

you might check with Heathanson or Mairkurian as they would most likely know better then I. I think the big one is A-Kon.

I also found BGG Con after a google search and it seems to be coming up next month. this one seems to be a Board game convention. I did not even know they had those. Woo Hoo come play monopoly.Or better yet Yettisburg.

I take it that Iron GM only runs in the states :( If it ran over here in blightie I would love to give it a go.
I spoke with a convention in Ireland and one in Puerto Rico about holding Iron GM Regional Semifinals. Neither conversation has gone very far... yet.
We're more (in bold and capital letters, with animated GIFs all around) than willing to bring Iron GM international. In fact, it's part of the evil master plan - to celebrate awesome gaming everywhere.
I think Rone has a list of all 248 countries and we plan to go to every... single... one.
After we blow the doors of the Tropicana at Iron GM | NeonCon, of course.

That is very good news.

You guys never told me about every country. I mean...wow...I...I don't know about this. I'm going to have to get more than one of these.

I knew about the Boardgame Geek one, but not A-Kon. Thanks for the links, and for the good idea to ask Heathansson and Mairk.

BGG Con is all Board Games, run my BoardGameGeek. They've recently launched RPG Geek, so maybe they'll be bringing RPGs to BGG Con, or making an RPGG Con in the future?
In Texas, there's also OwlCon, which I hope to get to some day.
First stop, Sin City. Next... The moon, Alice! Or Disney Land?
I'm so confused.
Where would you like to see the next Iron GM Regional Semifinal?

Don't mean to choke my own post... I mean... er... um...
but Geekdad John Baichtal gave us boostification on Wired.com.
:) Neato.

I was just interviewed on This Just in on NeonCon about the Iron GM.
We were also interviewed for the Robot Viking blog.
