I have been trying make some unique Wondrous Items for my campaign, but whenever I follow the item creation rules the items end up being far more expensive than they should be. Plus when I try to re-create existing items by following the rules that does not work out either. Can anyone explain how to correctly make/price a Wondrous Item?

As a GM: First, you start by using the magic item creation guidelines. Second, you compare your item to a similar existing item and see if the price is about right. Third, raise or lower the price to the point that seems best--ideally it will be cheap enough to obtain at the appropriate levels, and expensive enough so as to not be the obvious choice.
As a player: Ask your GM.

Please give examples of which ones don't work for you so we can analyze. The pricing table refers to example items for many of the effects priced. Do those example items work for you?
Can you make the formulas work for standard items such as wands and weapons?
