ToTSE and Kaurophon musings

Shackled City Adventure Path

Sovereign Court

Ok, so I'm running SCAP with PFRPG and it's going well so far. The party has just encountered Saureya outside the Skull when we ended last night.

I'm thinking ahead to the final encounter. I've been playing Kaurophon as if he truly is trying to redeem himself and fighting against his evil nature. The plan is for the Nexus of Evil to bring his demonic side to full control, supersized and all. The betrayal won't truly be a surprise, one character is highly suspicious (openly so), most of the others are somewhat suspicious while the cleric/paladin married couple (bleeding hearts that they are) are completely buying into the redemption line.

My problem comes when I imagine how the final fight will go. I have 7 PCs, all 11th level: paladin of pelor, cleric of farlanghn, monk, sorc7/ftr1/EK3, sorc5/DD6, rog, and druid. As usually happens with PFRPG (or 3.5 for that matter, maybe 4e too, haven't played much) the party will just decimate any single opponent. The drow sorc/DD has blind sense and faerie fire (and is likely to punch right through K's SR with spell pen, greater spell pen and the elven +2). The paladin will smite evil and could easily kill K in one round of full attacks. The cleric has channel energy coming out of his shiny armored rear end. Even if K is able to hold off the inevitable for a few rounds there's really no way he'll even be able to try to telekinese someone into the flame unless he tries it right off, in which case he's guaranteed to die quickly because he's not playing defensively.

Here's what I'm thinking, but it may be too much. I'm considering either having the nexus provide a +5 CL boost OR have K level from the XP that all this tromping around Occipitus has given. This will put the party within paralyzation range of K's Blasphemy. If too many fail the save, I can have him go into overconfident monologue mode, drunk on the power that the nexus has given him, after all, he was intending to help the PC's until the Nexus showed him the error of his ways, etc etc. I'm just afraid that with a few unlucky rolls by key members of the party it could be pretty easy for K to shove a paralyzed member into the flame.

Anyway, I think I'll go ahead with the Blasphemy idea and if it gets too hairy I can back off a little. Only a little, I'm not afraid to kill people, I just don't want to set up a fight that's more difficult than it should be to begin with.
