Cavalier Help

Advice

Hey guys,

I'm currently playing through the Kingmaker campaign, and have been interested in creating a mounted character. However, I know almost nothing about making an effective and cool mounted character since I've never played one, or seen someone play one!

I know Paladin are supposed to be great mounted combatants, but the Cavalier is designed entirely around it, and doesn't seem to be as MAD. However, I'm a poor judge of classes on paper. Anyone able to fill me in on how the Cavalier plays, maybe a basic outline of how to make it fun and effective ?

I've played a triple focused cavalier in an app during the playtest.

Remember a Cavalier is a team player. He does get mounted class abilities and some awesome team skills. Remember mounted combat is not the norm. Mounted Combat, Ride By Attack and Spirited Charge are plenty. Going Two Handed benefits you most because it requires only power attack and cleave. If human you still have enough feats for a few ranged (which you suck at and challenge don't work with) but can help shore up your weakness.

With your bonus teamwork feats you should take Outflank first (you only get limited uses of challenge) having +4 to hit for you and your buddies really pulls up your dpr (now that APG is out I'd go Combat expertiseand Gang up instead of ranged feats)

Note if you are human, you do also have enough room for mounted plus sword and board twf tree (take mounted feats later when combat takes place more often in larger areas).

Now your order choice really affects playztyle. Order of the shield is my favorite as it makes challenget grant a to hit bonus. Your now a spellessential paladin. The turning damage to non-leathal is kinda like dr. The improved version of standstill let's you hurt em and be sticky. The immediate action move and smack rocks-you can interrupt attacks on allies.

Order of the cockatrice is cool only if your the only meleer or at lest have an understanding noone touches your target.

Order of the dragon is awesome for your allies attack. Go two handed for this one and take furious focus and flank a lot. You'll basically make your buddies better at hitting (ok if paired with 3/4 pals but if there is a fighter in your group you making him look better than you.

Try it out. Cavalier's done right are awesome. I'm actually surprised no-one has started a OMG cavalier's are overpowered thread.
