Episode 1 of the new podcast is up!

www.flagonsanddragons.com

In this first episode the hosts discuss the problem of absent players and the lack of players. They also discuss character backgrounds in role-playing games.

Enjoy!

Scarab Sages

Hey! One of those guys sounds....familiar.

Scarab Sages

Bump.

Episode 2 of the Flagons & Dragons podcast is up, and now finally on iTunes.

They give their thoughts on the Pathfinder RPG after playing it for awhile.

Visit www.FlagonsAndDragons.com for their info.

Will try to tomorrow, someone please remind me.

This is a very good podcast. I have listened to both episodes (downloaded directly from the website).

The hosts are articulate and their discussions are reasoned and mature. From their respective anecdotes and observations it is easy to tell they have been playing D&D for a long time and they use this experience to great effect during the discussions.

In the latest episode, the brief discussion they have about the demise of "WoTC D&D" and the rise of "Paizo D&D" was rational and well reasoned. No edition war baiting or Fanboy cheering. Bravo.

The beer breaks are priceless. A novel twist that is enjoyable, informative and strangely not out of place one bit.

Keep up the good work. I'll be subscribing on iTunes.

Just kidding! Great podcast, guys. Glad to see it's on iTunes, as that makes it very easy for me to keep up with.

Meh. It's cool.

I tend to keep my personal Facebook friends limited to personal friends, family, and business folks I know well. Because that leaves out a LOT of people who want to follow me (and who I enjoy chatting with), I recently set up a Facebook fan page that is open to all.

Subsequently, I do most of my game chatting on the fan page now, which is probably a great relief to my family and people I went to high school with.

If you're interested in hearing what I have to say when I'm bored in the middle of the day (and that I don't post here!), swing on by!

Oh, so what you're saying is you won't friend him, but you want him to fan you.

I believe there's a special bad place where the souls of people like that end up. Not to mention that they're usually among the first ones to get eaten in a zombiepocalypse.

It's probably right above the place for people who like to childishly needle others about certain things and stir things up. (I hope we still get podcasts there.) As for the inevitable ZombApoc, you'll understand if I don't discuss my plans for it.

Isn't leaf face made up of poison ivy - I also thought zombies were brainivores not sentientherbivores.

Liberty's Edge

I'm not much of a podcast listener (I usually try to multi-task and end up tuning the voices out) but I listened to both episodes back-to-back on my lunch-break and thought they were really good. Please record more! ;-)

If you change anything else, please don't get rid of the in-game clips over the closing music; they're absolutely hilarious!

Scarab Sages

We actually did record something this past Saturday night, but I think the sound got messed up a little (i.e. too much background noise). It might end up as some kind of bonus episode instead of a new one.

Going good then? No slipping and saying words we should not like others we know?

Aberzombie wrote:

Yup. We recorded at a new location, were down one host, had two guests, and tossed in a new segment. Largely an experiment. It's not 'bad', but the sound quality isn't on par with the previous two episodes.

If this was podcast #65, I'd feel less concerned about releasing it, but with only two episodes out, I think we'll wait and release it as a bonus episode or some such at a later date.

We're getting back together this weekend and should have the entire crew.

Thanks for understanding. Just want to put our best feet forward.

Oooh....yeah, looks like we are.

Note to self: Prep for Kingmaker.

You guys have time to get together, drink beer, record a podcast, AND game? I freakin HATE you guys.

And don't forget - some of our beer is homebrewed!

This weekend's episode veers away from Pathfinder in topic, but the game session outros will be from our Kingmaker campaign.

We'll be talking instead about the new edition of Warhammer Fantasy, and why some people play miniature wargames and some don't.

Should be interesting because some of us play only role-playing games, and some of us play both.

Also, our Top 5 for the next episode is probably going to be The Top 5 Heroes in a Fantasy Novel/Series.

Stay tuned!

Thanks Vaz, glad you like it.

In order to make the website more interesting, we've just added Polls to it.

This week's poll is "How many hours a week do you game?"

It's down the right side of the page.

http://www.FlagonsAndDragons.com

Have fun!

Liberty's Edge

Carl, I don't see the poll on your website.

Also, can I ask what equipment/software you're using for recording and editing/mixing the podcast audio? I've been mulling over the idea of doing a podcast (not that I'll ever have the spare time to do so, but it's nice to dream).

It's not very visible. It's under the Facebook thing on the right sidebar. The default CSS for that is ... meh. I should make a graphic or something for it. Thanks for pointing that out.

As for equipment, here's what we're using:

1. Mixer - Alesis MultiMix 16 USB. The new USB 2.0 can record in stereo. This one is just mono. With this we can have up to 8 hosts/guests each with their own mic.

2. Mics - Shure SM58

3. Recording device - HP Pavilion dv8t with Audacity.

4. Editing software - Cakewalk Sonar 8

This isn't a beginner setup though. I don't think I'd spend this much if I was just getting started. I manage the multimedia and tech for the company I work for and some of this is left-over from my days in a rock band. So, I have access to it all.

If you're interested in doing a podcast for one or two hosts, I can suggest some very affordable (free!) stuff that will do a fine job. Send me an email at carl@flagonsanddragons.com

Ok gang, Episode 3 is on the website and available through iTunes. You may need to manually update to get the new episode.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please send me an email, carl@flagonsanddragons.com

Enjoy!
