Not sure atk bonus for my Eidolon.

Advice

Hey guys,

I've been playing a Summoner for awhile now, but it wasn't until my DM brought it up to me that I realized there was different attack modifiers for primary and secondary attacks.

My eidolon is a quadruped with the normal 2x claw and 1x bite attacks. He has pounce and also rake. So he has 3 normal attacks and a potential for 5. Also, he took the multi-attack feat.

He has a +6 attk with his bite, and +7 with each claw. So I've been playing that he would be able to make all three attacks with the following bonuses: +4 bite, + 5 for each claw. Is that correct ? (I have weapon focus: claw that accounts for the +1) Would the rake attacks be +5 each as well ? and can it even have that since it is only allowed 3 attacks ?

If you check the section where you buy the different attacks it tells you which are primary and which are secondary. If it listed as primary you get your full attack bonus for it. Off the top of my head I think Wing buffets, tails swipes (not stinger) are secondary but I'm sure there are more. Claws and bite are both primary. Sounds like your original values are correct not the lower ones. Rake would be at +6 as well I suspect.

Thanks for the reply, so I guess I'm off on just what constitutes a "monsters" attack modifiers. So if its a primary attack you don't take penalties for using more than one a round ? I.e. +6 bite attack, then in the same round I attack for +7 for each claw ? What does the multi-attack feat do for me then ? Does it just reduce the penalties for secondary attacks ?

Multiattack (Combat)

This creature is particularly skilled at making attacks with its natural weapons.

Prerequisite: Three or more natural attacks.

Benefit: The creature's secondary attacks with natural weapons take only a –2 penalty.

Normal: Without this feat, the creature's secondary attacks with natural weapons take a –5 penalty.

Yes. It just lowers the penalty for secondary attacks. Check the monster entries for any monster that has lots of natural attacks like dragons. Their claw and bite attacks usually have the same modifier.

Natural attacks are not like iterative attacks. Aside from the secondary/primary division they don't get lower the more you have.

Edit: To clarify.

Thanks a ton, I remember reading the feat, of course, but I didn't make the connection of secondary being a classification. I need to swap out a feat then :D

Mind clarifying the same with summoned monsters ? I noticed some monsters have more than one attack listed, do they get to use each one of those per round; like the eidolon ? Or do the they only pick one. I only ask since there are some pretty low level monsters with two attacks etc.

If they make a full round attack they get to use them all. if they move they only get a standard action and can only make one attack (their pick).
