We've never been in the market for using compound or made-up words as the titles of new classes (or changing the magus's name at this point, I'm just explaining our philosophy). Naming this class is something we struggled with. As Merriam-Webster doesn't have a lot of demand for a word that means "fighter/magic-user," there's not a good existing touchstone for us to just pick-up, as we'd prefer. So in this case we're hijacking a word and turning it to our own use.

I felt a sudden disturbance in the Force. As if 10,000 lexicographers screamed in unison and were suddenly silenced.

While I understand that what's done is done. A class that unites two disparate archetypes probably would have been appropriate for a compound name.

Sophisticated looking male half-orc.
