Help with short adventure... 1 shot

Advice

Liberty's Edge

Just wanted to try to get as much advice as possible. Am running 3 pcs this coming weekend for a 1-shot. I would like ideas for a nice 3-5 hour long adventure that would involve some significant role-playing between characters(read: differing goals ,but not necessarily at each others throats.... suggesting character types would be fine) with a unique adventure as well.

To give you the type of off the wall thinking I am soliciting, I recently ran a 1 shot with a fellow gm that involved 10+ pcs being damned souls seeking to escape hell. Sort of 2e planescape meets Dante's Inferno ,but with standard pc capabilities and each pc had its own secret motivations...used PFRPG rules.

Would prefer a slightly higher level of say 7+ ,but anything interesting would be great.

Anyhoo...I thought if anyone could give some help it would be the messageboards here at Pazio. Thanks for the thoughts.

No specific advice except this: Use the 5-Room Dungeon format. I make regular use of it, and find it lends itself well to a variety of short adventures.

Dark Archive Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games

It could be cheesey, and it has been done in other formats, but you could do the old "Who's the Werewolf?" game.

In a nutshell: Folks in town are turning up dead - mauled by a large animal. The PCs, all from the town, investigate the deaths. The twist is that one of the PCs is a werewolf who is responsible for the killing spree...But the PC may not know it...

The role playing and adventure all revolve around the investigation. You could give each PC a role to play (town sheriff, mayor, merchant, farmer, etc.) and make the decision whether or not to share with the Werewolf PC that they are, in fact, the werewolf (I recommend hiding this fact, as it could make a neat "a-ha" moment when one of the investigators finds out HE is responsible for the killing...).

Silver Crusade

If you have access to older Dungeon Magazines, the "Challenge of Champions" series are great 1-shot "thinker" scenarios that encourage teamwork. You might want to spice them up with some unexpected combat at the end (maybe there's a reward for winning, and some adventuring group that lost makes a grab for the reward).

Liberty's Edge

hey thanks for the ideas...like 'em all...had completely forgot about challenge of champions...all three ideas were cool...werewolf would have the most rp ,but 5 room dungeon( hadn't heard of that before..nice) would be easiest to prep...if ya have any more ideas lay 'em on me!

Grand Lodge

For the record, I've had most success with the "Challenge of Champions" puzzles in Dungeon 138.

You may also want to get a small dungeon crawl like Paizo's "Seven Swords of Sin" or a quicky mystery, "Gallery of Evil."
