Quick Ruling on when you can take Extra Discovery

Since the prereq for Extra Discovery is "Discovery Class Feature", does having the class itself act as prereq or is 3rd level the earliest an Alchemist can take Extra Discovery?

You must be able to have a discovery before you can have an extra one.

Yep, this isn't like using a wand. Having it "on your class list" is different than "having the class ability". In this case, you must have the ability, not merely have the potential for the ability in the future.

I agree with this...I'm just not sure why the reverse isn't true. I still question why a Ranger with a Wisdom of 8 can use a wand for spells he can't cast. But that's another debate altogether.
