What I mean is that a wizard 1/ sorcerer 1/ bard 1/ summoner 1 will indeed get a lot of benefit from the ring -- his spells slots in each class are doubled... but his caster level in each class is 1. Meaning he'll have trouble with durations, low amounts of effect and duration.
While his friend the wizard 4, will get less use from the ring, but will have higher level spells to cast, and with a higher caster level, netting him better overall effect from the spells he does cast.
