Eidolons and items: question

Rules Questions

Greetings and salutations! My gaming group and I are getting ready to start playing pathfinder so we are currently looking over the rules. Most rules questions Ithat I have had have been answered in various other threads, but one question I have WAS asked but seemed to be overlooked: If eidolons and summoners share item slots, what happens to any items an eidolon is wearing if it is forced to return to it's own plane? Furthermore, what about anything it might be carrying? (Like extra loot etc)
This may seem a small matter, and I could easily come up with a house rule for it, but I was curious to see if there was an "official" policy. The reason being is that it occurs to me that one could create an eidolon that served as an excellent thief (using unfetter and bond senses, of course) and if all items went with it when it "poofed" then it could be use it to make kamikazee thieving raids. On the other hand, if all items remain behind then a summoner would have to make sure they retrieved important dropped items.(shared items)
I imagine it would be fair to say worn items went with the eidolon but carried would not. This still leaves a little room for abuse, but not as much. Maybe there should be an attunement time for its items, say 24 hours? Any thoughts?

As with any summon, items in the eidolon's possession when it is summoned will leave when the eidolon does. Items that you give to it after you summon it will plop on the ground when it leaves.

Think of it this way; when you use summon monster IV to summon a hound archon, it comes with a masterwork greatsword (per the creature's description). The greatsword is just as "summoned" as the archon is. If you gave the archon a baseball cap to wear, the cap isn't summoned, so the archon leaves it behind when he returns home.

I, for example, play a gnome summoner with a riding eidolon. When she gets dismissed, I have to ask one of my party members to lug around her saddle until I can summon her again.

If I wanted her to take the saddle with her (boy do I ever), then I would have to gate or plane shift my gnome butt to whatever plane she hails from and strap it on her there. At that point we'd be together "really", neither of us summoned, and anything we hand back and forth is a legitimate transaction.

After returning to my home plane, I could then summon her, and she would arrive wearing a summoned saddle.

This is a generic rule for summons; Eidolons are special, and different rules may apply. I haven't seen any exceptions in print, though.

Hmmm. An excellent response, my thanks. I do believe this is how I will handle items in an Eidolon's possesion.
On a related note, affter I did my first post, it occured to me you still could use an Eidolon for suicide runs to retrieve/steal items by using Makers Call (as LOS is not listed as a limitation.) This brings to mind some interesting applications if you styled your Eidolon more for stealth/recon

You should be able to store the saddle in a glove of storing.

Does Maker's Call have a range ? The loss of hit points is rather vital for being more than 100 feet or so from the summoner (or whatever the distance is) - that loss is not cured by returning to range.

The more chaotic summoners might consider leaving a few thousand gold with the Eidolon as well. Buy a few rounds for the bar in order to get everyone talking, then dismiss. The barkeep'll be fairly puzzled as to why all his gold evaporated...

While true, the gold in question would detect as magic of the conjuration school, not that most bartenders would check. I'd be careful passing that money off in front of magic users, though.
