I'm wondering why the international postal fees are so high. Even with the 15% off for being a subscriber, ordering from amazon saves me on average 20-40%. I would like to support paizo directly, but the difference in price leaves a bitter taste. Is the overseas volume too small for cooperation with local partners, or what's the reason?

If I am correct one thing that could factor in is that Amazon has werehouses overseas.

'Is the overseas volume too small for cooperation with local partners'
A long time ago Paizo subcontracted delivery of Dungeon and Dragon in the UK and Europe to another company. This company were rubbish and alot of us spent alot of time complianing about them to Paizo as we weren't receiving the magazines that we had paid Paizo for.
I think Paizo spent alot of money salvaging this and sending out back issues when this arrangement finally went completely wrong - and I would expect the experience left them wary of any such future arrangements. For subscriptions only I'd also expect the volumes are so small that the whole idea isn't financially viable - especially with some subscribers taking 3-4 different product lines per month, all on different printing and despatch schedules.

Shipping stuff overseas is just really expensive. We've done a lot to keep the prices as low as we can, and we continue to look for better options, but the bottom line is that we charge to cover our costs, and every year, shipping costs are going up for everyone.

I'm in Germany and my AP suscription comes out pretty much cheaper or the same price as buying the book from Amazon and the PDF here. So I take the option where I directly support Paizo.

LOL - Sorry, but the mental picture of a werehouse just really tickles me :-)
"Nooo, da mooon!!! Aroooo-ooo-ooo...
<sound of settling bricks>"
And yeah, every time I look at the shipping I factor in two things:
- getting the pdf well before release date, for free.
- amazon frequently messes up Paizo delivery dates, underorders and generally conspires to make me wait six weeks.
Amazon looks cheaper, and if you don't care when you get the newest hardback it may be the option for you. Thing is, every time a new hardback comes out, the boards are full of people canceling amazon orders and ordering from paizo or starting subscriptions to get the pdf immediately!
So I'm happy to stay where I am :-)
