A truly colossal crimson red furred gorilla with large curved horns jutting out of its head and a thin slithering reptilian tail coming from under its back looks upon you with vile green glowing eyes. It rears up and pounds its massive chest with its two incredibly muscular arms and issues forth a roar that is almost deafening to hear.

The Bekyar Tribe of the Mwangi Expanse makes no secret of their worship Angazhan, the Ravener King. Countless elf, half-elf, and human females of exceptional beauty have been led in chains, bound and gagged, by the Bekyar, through the jungle to their villages to be manacled to the many ape skulled adorned sacrificial altars and sacrificed as the "brides of Angazhan" (with "Angazhan" usually being represented in the sacrificial ritual by an exceptionally large ape [usually a dire ape] with the Giant advancement]). One dire ape however is viewed as a literal incarnation of Angazhan himself and the mere mention of its name causes Bekyar to quiver in fear and females of any humanoid species to get shivers down their spines. Its name is Agnoo and it is widely (and correctly) regarded to be a direct spawn of Angazhan himself. The Bekyar keep it enclosed in its several kilometer jungle domain with a titanic stone wall...the only entrance to the wall is through a massive reinforced darkwood door (which curiously is made to be opened primarily from inside the wall and not the outside). Beyond the doors is a gargantuan stone sacrificial altar...and beyond that lies the darkest, most inhospitable region of the Mwangi Expanse. There dwells Agnoo, in a massive skull shaped cave, eagerly awaiting to claim his next "bride" offered to him by the Bekyar who worship him and his father Angazhan. Rumor has it that Agnoo’s “brides” have varied in range from a unfortunate seductive elf priestess of Calistra to a captured frost giant princess (who rumor has it was the daughter of a Frost Giant Jarl who to this day holds a colossal grudge against the Bekyar and Angazhan). All of them have been unwilling to be given the honor of becoming the “brides of Angazhan” and all have screamed at the top of their lungs when Agnoo came within sight. Yet no adventurer or pathfinder has dared to venture deep enough into the expanse to rescue the victims of the Bekyar (for even if they were to trek through the expanse and face ferocious dinosaurs, maneating plants, and worse they would still have to face a small army of Bekyar tribesmen including their savagely barbaric chieftain, his druidic ape shaman right hand, and a female voodoo priestess who enjoys tormenting Angazhan’s “brides” before they are sacrificed. Perhaps one day an adventurer will rise to the challenge but even if he defeats dinosaur, plant, and Bekyar, he must still contend with Agnoo; who does not tolerate being denied it’s prize.

Liberty's Edge

1. Good use of templates, I like this.

2. I will call him Spiro.

Dark Archive

The way the Advanced x3, Giant x3 and Half-Fiend templates radically bumped the stats of the creature (including placing the Int, Dex, Wis and Cha at very high values for the type of creature this is), while leaving it at 4 HD feels 'wrong' to me. I know it's rules-legal, but the idea of a Colossal creature being 4 HD just feels weird.

The charts on 291 are just guidelines, but they suggest that a CR 10 outsider should have around 13 HD. The templates on this beastie, combined with the recommended HD would, of course, give it hit points *ridiculously* over the recommended 130 hp... (uh, carry the naught... something like an extra 162 hp, which brings it to the recommended hit points for a CR 17? Yikes.) The AC is about 8 over recommended for that CR, the primary save about 8 over. The attack rating about 4 over. The damage is, conversely, about 14 under.

Still, I've got no complaint about the creature that doesn't stem entirely from how wonky the Simple Templates are in application.

Being a big fan of Fiendish, Dire, Half-Fiendish and / or Awakened Apes in service to Angazhan (with levels in Druid, Ranger, Adept, Barbarian and / or Cleric), it's always fun to see more of them!

A enormous, muscular, and savage red-furred gorilla with six slender fingers and tusk-like teeth approaches and leers at you with tiny bloodshot eyes. It rears up, pounds it's massive chest with it's equally massive arms and issues forth a nearly deafening roar.

Smite Good (Su): Once per day Agnoo can add +4 extra damage a good foe.
