Inspired by the APG

I just finished digesting the APG, and I've decided what I want to play if I ever find a PFS group.

So take one level of drunken brute barbarian and the rest in alchemist (a.k.a. brewmeister).

In the first round of combat, you can rage (a free action), drink an extract (a move action), and drink a mutagen (a standard action). At 9th level, take the combine extracts discovery. You can then rage (a free action) and drink two extracts (two move actions) to activate four buffs in one round!

It may not be the most powerful combo in the world, but this drunken alchemist build sounds really, really fun to play.

So, who else has been inspired by the APG, and what quirky builds do you want to play?

I never understood what it's fun by bending the rules to create overpowered characters...

At least he isn't try to work out how to make the most overpowered two-handed fighter or spell-blaster like so many others.

I can imagine the character being a mild-mannered scientist who gets a bit out of hand after a drink or two too many......

Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde anyone? ^_^

Yar.

...as for the OP's intent for this thread...

Currently I'm playing a deinonychus riding halfling cavalier who looks like a miniature version of Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe from the Flight of Dragons cartoon (save that he's on a dinosaur instead of a horse) with a wolf riding halfling bard (arcane duelist) whip-trip specialist cohort (names Giles, after the halfling bard in the cartoon as well)... but that's more thematic than quirky.

I also have an elven weapon master fighter in the works, and a (maybe) paladin (but for sure) monk of the four winds-duelist in the back of my mind as well. As well as dozens of summoners with Eidolons based off of final fantasy summons... but I don't think these are really all that quirky.

Scarab Sages

I'm considering a Gnome Alchemist with the Extra Bombs feat and the Gnome Alchemist favored class bonus to bombs, and dressing him up as a jester. Basically, making him a "lobber" from the old Gauntlet video games. (Yes, nerdy AND obscure! 8^)

Or you could just take the Accelerated Drinker trait.

The saddest thing about this loophole is that it's right there. Not even in 10 different books where you can give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they didn't know about the separate things.

But they're in the same chapter.

Sad? Overpowered? Bending rules? Loophole?

It's using rules exactly as written, it's not really overpowered, and... okay, if they MISS things like that, it's sad. If they saw it and thought 'meh, it's quite okay', then... it's quite okay.

Hardly looks like a "loophole" or a "broken combo" to me.

If anything, because they are so close together within the same book, I'm operating under the impression that they were (RAI) meant to work together.

EDIT: Ninja'd again! Tis' not my day.

Liberty's Edge

An Alchemist with Fast Bombs, whom I would call Dédé de Montréal.

It is based on a quote from a very famous (at least in France) French comedy called Les Tontons Flingueurs : "Dédé de Montréal. Un fondu qui travaille qu'à la dynamite".

"Dédé de Montréal. A loon who only works (ie kills) with dynamite."

BTW, said character never appears in the movie. This quote is the only proof of his existence that we ever get.

One of my players has already progressed to level 3 with this current idea. The day he gets to level 9 with it, I'll be shaking my head and envisioning him trying to impersonate Jackie Chan properly by doing stunts and paying dearly for them.

I liked the idea of making a summoner who basically summons a genie. Make him Arabian themed, with an appropriate weapon and maybe the forge ring feat, to make awesome magic rings...

gnome summoner riding medium sized eidolon + mounted combat feats...its actually more sick than i intended, flying around at 5th level and if i can get my hands on a lance that has the property that makes me proficient, doing triple damage (spirited charge) with my one attack a round, after which i ride-by-attack out of range...if no lance then i just wait till 7th level...and all i wanted was a crazy gnome flying around on a fantastical creature laughing maniacally

You could do that with a riding dog, pretty much.
You can have flight at level 5. It's about right.

There's a character trait that lets you do that. Accelerated Drinker:

Pathfinder Companion: Cheliax, Empire of Devils wrote:

Benefit: You may drink a potion as a move action instead of a standard action as long as you start your turn with the potion in your hand.

Before battle: Have your two potion type things ready.

Round 1: Drink them.
Rest of Battle: ???
End of Battle: Profit!

I have a Magic Six-Pack and a funnel. In one standard action, you drink 6 potions. Or drinks. I suggest that drow shroom brandy that has been appearing on the black market.

Take the Master Tinker alternate racial trait and have your Gnome craft the lance. Voila, automatic proficiency.
