Liberty's Edge

Since the Summoner can get his nice little spell-like ability out as a standard action, is there anything stopping him from taking the feat Quicken Spell-Like Ability to make it a swift action?

Other than the DM of course! ;)

well yes, but:
he would have to be level 10 to use it as summon monster I, and only three times per day. even at 20th level he can just use it to quick summon monster VI, so i don't think it's a too powerful feat for a summoner.

Yes, his ability changes with level. He doesn't have summon monster I when he's 10th level by then it's summon monster 5..

So he'd have to be a multiclassed summoner, with about 8 dead (to summoner) levels...

No, I said the same thing in Beta and Jason said you retain the ability to use it as the lower-level summon monsters as well. So, yes, you can use Quicken Spell-Like Ability on it. It's not a terribly useful thing to do, but you can do it.
