Best 20 point buy...

Scarab Sages

Ok, need a solid 20 point buy. Nothing below 10, really only 1, maybe 2 stats ought to be good. What is your guys take on it?

Thanks in advance!

Well, you can do 16/14/14/10/10/10, 16/16/10/10/10/10, 17/14/12/10/10/10, or 18/13/10/10/10/10 (those are off the top of my head). Those are about the only things you can do if you're using a 20 point buy, only care about a small number of stats, and can't dump below 10.

I second the 17/14/12/10/10/10

Really depends on character class. A Wizard need just INT high and everything else can be mid-low, whereas a Rogue/Bard benefits more from a lot of middle stats.

Sweet, thinking an Oracle, Human.

I like the 17,14,12,10,10,10 and the 16,14,14,10,10,10.

I just am not fond of dump stats, and below 10s.

It's honestly not that bad especially if you use your race to make up the difference, but that wouldn't apply if you are using human or a half-race.

Like if you made a Gnome Witch and choose to dump on charisma, you could pull 4 points if you brought it down to 7, the race would bump it to 9 and at level 4 you would be able to bring it back up to 10, a single -1 really isnt that bad IMO but... different styles.

Yeah, I find having a single -1 fairly realistic. I try to avoid -2s or multiple -1s, though.

Just a personal choice, I am not a big fan of -1s. I like the 20 point buy, and I dig the RP experience of a slightly more clumsy or weak character, but still. Thanks for your help, any advice on statting out the Human Oracle for lvl 1??

Using the 17,14,12,10,10,10 and the 16,14,14,10,10,10.

Thanks!

I love having at least one sub-par stat, but I'm unusual in that I prefer it to be a physical stat. I've played a 7 dex cleric, a 4 str wizard and an 8 con shugenja. All in 3.5. It's very hard to do this with a fighter type, but I'm sure I'll pull it off someday ;)
Maybe a 7 str crossbow fighter, or a 7 dex two-hander fighter, or an 8 con dex-based vanilla fighter (tons of AC at high levels).

Human Oracle 1...

What is your character concept? Oracle of war archer is going to look different from an Oracle of Fire.

Oracle of Bones, with the sight curse, so high dex isn't necessary really as I'll hardly be shooting bows and arrows and casting boom boom type spells. In essence, an Oracular Necromancer type. Planning on taking the revelation that lets me channel to command undead, the animate dead one, the speak with dead one, the act as undead one....basically an undead type Oracle. I like the scythe, but can't take it unless I blow a feat on the weapon proficiency, although I did think about taking the "Family Heirloom" trait which specifically says that I am then also proficient with said weapon even if I can't meet prereqs, but that is actually JUST a flavor aspect.

A lot of your bonus spells are saving throw dependent, so you might want to go for as much CHA as you can within reason. I might go with this:

STR 14 (medium armor is heavy, plus you want to smack things too)
DEX 10 (medium armor + shield will be decent AC)
CON 12 (d8+1 per level, plus class bonus)
INT 10 (5 skill points a level is plenty)
WIS 10 (little leery, but Will saves is your strong one)
CHA 17+2

If you want to just see a bunch of possible combinations, go and look at this thread in the PFS forum. This thread includes all possible PFS legal combinations, so numbers range from 7 to 18, but there are plenty of sets that match your criteria, of course. That said, I prefer to have a set with nothing less than 12, so that if I put the 12 in the stat where a race has a -2, I will still not have any negative modifiers. I also like having at least a couple of starting stats that will bump up to the next level of bonuses if the bonus point from level 4, 8, etc is put there, so a couple of odd numbers are good. 15/13/13/13/12/12 is a good one for this. Also, if you want a character that is not super fantastic in anything but is not really bad in any stat either, you can go with 14/13/13/13/13/13.
