Ip Man -- Greatest Marital Arts Movie Ever !!

Movies

The movie Ip Man is a triumph. The best martial arts movie I have ever seen.

A >bit of action< from the film.

That was pretty cool, although not what I was expecting for a "marital arts movie." That would probably be pretty NSFW, IYKWIM(AITYD).

Sadly, I have been on the internet long enough to know what you mean... only a few seconds to figure out that second parenthetically-delimited acronym. *sigh*

Just saw this last night. Very cool movie. Also, very pro-China. For those who want to know more, Ip Man tells the idealized and loosely-based story of Bruce Lee's sifu and what the man was doing prior to and during WWII. I wouldn't call this a biopic because there are too many errors in fact and too little actual history given on the film's subject. However, Ip Man is an excellent drama that uses martial arts as a way to progress the story without overshadowing it. Sammo Hung and Tony Leung Siu-hung put together some thrilling fight choreography and do their best to stay away from the quick cuts, close crops and computer enhancements that plague so many other modern action films.

"Greatest Martial Arts Film Ever" might be a stretch, but Ip Man should have no difficulty becoming a classic.

I discovered this movie by accident on Netflix and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am going to see the second one and will own the first one at least.

Nah. Best marital arts movie ever is Four Weddings and a Funeral. Or maybe The Wedding Singer. Of course, War of the Roses is pretty nifty, too.

And I'll stop being an ass for a few seconds now.

Wow. Added to my Netflix que and bumped to #1. I have to see this for two reasons: 1) wing chun is such an interesting style, and 2) Donnie Yen is a stud.

Then you need to see Five Deadly Venoms.

Cool. I'll have to check it out since someone who's seen my favorite rates Ip Man over it.

I, however, am from Missouri. :)

Ok, you lost me. Can anyone explain this for me please?

Typo spelling, Marital Arts = married arts. Thus, bedroom scenes.

Not safe for work, if you know what i mean,(and i think you do.)

Ip Man was good, I'll give it that.

Ip Man 2 wasn't quite as good though, so I'd advise cautions about sequelitis. Still... it amused someone enought to make THIS POSTER and for that I was entertained.

Thanks Rathendar, still learning...

Ip Man wrote the drum intro for Van Halen's Hot For Teacher in 1939, using his fists on some Japanese guy's head and chest for drums.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but ... I finally saw Ip Man a few months ago. It's really good ...

... but Five Deadly Venoms is better.
