Trolls with Alchemist level....

So mutagens are pretty much out..or are they.
what would a troll want to mutate into

What else would you do with this Idea.

I am hoping to use the Troll of Absalom.

My players are level 12.

I could see trolls developing mutagens that work backwards from those used by PC races: They'd boost Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma at the cost of physical attributes.

That is kind of what i was thinking,

I was also thinking what kind of craziness Troll regeneration mixed with alchemy.

What kind of experiment would a troll do? The classic monster revisited talks about the troll of Absalom doing crazy experiments on his body. I was thinking that the Troll of Absalom had reanimated his regenerated body parts, and they are running a muck in Absalom

I don’t know anything about the Troll of Absolom, but to make the Troll smarter, I’d add the Advanced template. Adding twelve alchemist levels would take it to CR 15.
Base Troll Stats with Advanced template: Str 25, Dex 18, Con 27, Int 10, Wis 13, Cha 10, +7 natural armor
Adding elite array (+2 Str, -2 Dex, +2 Con, +4 Int, +4 Wis, +0 Cha) and three level-based boosts (Str, Con, Wis), equals:
Str 28, Dex 16, Con 30, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 10, +7 natural armor, 264 hp (18d8 +180), BAB +13, CMB +23, CMD 36, Fort +23, Ref +13, Will +12 (with Iron Will), an extra +18 troll HD skill points and 72 alchemist skill points.

Glad to help! You still have to do skills, pick six discoveries (well five plus Greater Mutagen) and six feats, plus formulas and magic items! ;-) I suppose one of those items should be a headband of Int +2 so that he doesn't lose out on 3rd and 4th-level formulas when using a mutagen.

...and the bonuses from bull's strength, mutagen, plus (elemental form I or) beast form II stack with his existing Strength. O_o

As to associates/minions, he probably shouldn't be encountered alone. Maybe some meat shield minions to help divide PCs' actions, and maybe a monster cleric to cast shield other on him and inflict ranged hurt (or at least hide in another room after casting shield other)... :D
