Faction System?

Advice

I swear I was reading one of the hundreds of books I have one day and there was a optional system where by players could earn faction of sorts(Favor or Disfavor) with npc's or power groups etc in a 3.x system. Might have been a pathfinder book or some other but I know I saw it. Does anyone by chance remember what book it was in or if not can you suggest a good system to use for what I am looking for?

Well Paizo has the Faction Guide, which is just that for Golarion organizations. 3.5 had both rules for Organizations and Affiliations in the DMGII and PHBII respectively.

Out of all of them, I think I prefer the Affiliation rules from the PHBII.

Did those have a system to track people favor with sed groups and organizations? Like if you do this action you gain 1 favor or faction point etc. I know I saw something like this somewhere.

You might also want to check the Savage Tide Adventure Path from Dungeon Magazine if you have them. There was a system for such organizations there too.

I have to agree with Varthanna, the affiliation rules in the PHB2 are very well put together and cohesive. Once you get the idea you can throw together rules for a faction in 15-20 minutes once you have the general concept.

I have tried to integrate this into my game, but just remember it is quite a bit of book work to keep all the different factions straight and what individual party members' level of affiliation with each one is. If you're willing to do the book work I have no doubt it is rewarding.

I agree that the Affiliation rules are quite good; I especially like how they accounted for the scale of operations.. small organizations had limited resources and ability influence things.

However... I should point out that those rules also hold that any one PC is "supposed" to only work with one or two Affiliations at a time.. each additional one incurs a penalty.

The Pathfinder Chronicles Faction Guide allows you to gain or lose Prestige in multiple Factions at once.

I remember reading something like this in the 1st Edition of the Everquest(d20) Rpg.

A friend uses the PHBII system in place of Alignments. His players seem to prefer it as well.
