Reading a thread about prestige classes, I was wondering which prestige classes would be considered the "top ten".
Since Pathfinder is a new game, with limited ability to use concepts developed by WoTC, this thread will include both Pathfinder PrCs and 3rd Edition (3.0/3.5) PrCs.
Which PrCs do you think should be on the list?

What's the criteria ?
Whatever criteria you think should be used to put it on the list.
Perhaps the ten essential PrCs for a setting.
Perhaps your ten personal favorite PrCs.
Perhaps the ones played most frequently by PCs.
Perhaps the ones used most frequently for NPCs.
Perhaps the ones you would most like to play.

Planar Shepherd with that funky Eberron plane and the looks of GM when you just broke his game. Those tears, I feast on those tears.
On a more serious note:
Since I despise the "PrCs as duct tape for wonky 3.5 classes concept" I only use them when they represent actually something prestigeous, eg. joining some group or order. In that regard"
1. Hellknight
2. Red Mantis Assassin
3. Thayan Knight
4. Purple Dragon Knight
5. Bloatmage

Very much this!
In pathfinder there is not any real need for a huge array PrC as most things can and are already covered conceptually with the core classes. That and all the classes are built to be powerful all the way up to 20, something that wasn't really the case with the 3.X Core classes.

some multi-class options are handled fairly well with PrC, Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster, Mystic Theurge.. even if many people disagree they are the most popular choices for PrC, otherwise I like trading options in the base classes like substitution levels, class variations and the upcoming archetypes much better than PrC or rather new base class for certain concepts like gish (I refuse to say magus).
Actually I would not mind doing away with PrC entirely if some basic concepts can be covered in other ways.
gish base class
average BAB, fighter level equals BAB for prerequistes, bonus feats, weapon and armor training use bard spell progression cast spells from the sorcerer list and reduce spell failure by 15% + 5% per 5 levels, a few fancy features and you got a new base class that works.
Went slightly off topic here, but favored PrC are fairly boring in themselves really, AT, EK, MT.. occasionaly another, but I think I might discourage use of PrC entirely in the future.
