Multiclassed characters and combined attack bonuses

Rules Questions

Take a character that has progressed far enough in a single class to achieve a +6/+1 base attack bonus. Now add a single level in another class that grants another +1 to that bonus; does that +1 apply to both "sides" of the previous bonus, or just to the higher number? In other words, is the now-multiclassed character's base attack bonus +7/+2, or +7/+1?

Iterative attacks (any attack after the 1st) occur when your BAB is greater than 5. They occur in 5 point intervals. Your example character has a +6/+1 BAB, then gets a level in a class that adds +1. So now we have +7 in the front. Well, if they're in 5 point intervals, what's the interval 5 points below 7? Why, +2. So yes, it's +7/+2. When all else fails, just look at the fighter BAB table. Everyone follows it, just at a different speed. There aren't any exceptions.

Much obliged for the clarification.

I was under the impression that a multiclassed character used whichever base attack bonus was highest. As I understood it, a 6th level fighter/2nd level wizard would have BAB of +6/+1. Gaining a level of wizard surely would not provide the same martial training as gaining a level of fighter.

You should review the rules on Multiclassing:

"He adds all of the hit points, base attack bonuses, and saving throw bonuses from a 1st-level wizard on top of those gained from being a 5th-level fighter."

Definitely not, you always stack them. A Wizard 2 has a BAB of +1, a Fighter 6 a BAB of +6. The combined BAB is +7. The fact that the Wizard is not providing the same martial training as a Fighter is already reflected on the fact that it has a much slower BAB track.

Cool!

I'm glad I misunderstood that rule.
