Collosus Fight - an Idea, rambles some

Rise of the Runelords

I know my players and ever since I read a thread on here that said the giant head on the Hambley farm might have been the cockpit for a collossal golem, my players have been in awe of Thassilon. I added a little sidequest where Madam Niska told the shoanti player to go in and gather the "holy shoanti relics" that were inside the place, because an archeologist from Magnimar had bought the farm after the Skinsaw Murders. Anyways, inside the head they found a gigantic mirror and a set of armor with dozens of chains extending from it, something akin to Neon Genesis or Robot Jocks.

So I was sitting around and thinking, where would be a good place to throw in a good fight between two collossal Thassilonian golems, I'm thinking somewhere near the end of AP#6. And realistically it probably needs to fall to pieces during the epic battle. It would be some really cool imagery for the players to see one of these big golems climbing out of a big hole in a mountain or something like that.

I'm looking for ideas here, I haven't read AP#6 in any detail yet. Anyone see the cover for the Elder Evils book? Something like that.

Glad to see someone else picked up the Thassalonian mecha idea. It did seem to me that it was a logical extension of the "building on a colossal scale" relics from Thassilon -- big is nice, but big and functional is better.

I haven't read up to AP #6 myself, but do post here if you end up running "MechAlaznist vs. Karzilla." :)

In the same style as Neon Genesis, I'm going to put them on a ticking clock. Something like the magic of the golem is fading away quickly and they only have so many rounds to put down the fully functional enemy Collosus. I'm not sure how two godzilla esque golems fighting in Xin-Shalast will affect the game, but its definitely got some cool imagery.

I worry about only having one player piloting the thing, but I'm sure I can figure out a way to keep everyone busy.

The fighter - has to put on the piloting armor and uses strength to direct the golem
The wizard - has to channel magic into the giant mirror or transfer so many spell levels per round into the golem to supplement the dying power source.
The rogue - is having to quickly re-enable various crumbling devices and possibly chase broken and snaking piloting chains across the floor.
The cleric - might be using divination or group channelling because of the impacts the golem is having to withstand.

I like keeping everyone busy, especially in climactic battles.

Luckily my players converted Lyrie and they are working with Brodert Quink. They are utterly convinced the madman of Sandpoint is a prodigy of ancient history.

My players have inferred the same thing from the Head at Thistletop. I've been looking for a way to work in this angle as well.

Another possible injection of this kind of golem fight would be the end of #5 — you could use the Karzoug greater stone golem and make it a little larger maybe?
