Alchemist and resting.....

Rules Questions

I've been reading over the Alchemist class (basically because I think my latest character's life expectancy is low), and I have a question about Alchemists and resting. From what I can tell, an Alchemist doesn't "cast spells" he mixes infusions (and other things). With that being the case, he doesn't need to rest like a normal spellcaster, right?

If he had a ring of sustenance (or better yet, some other way that he doesn't need to sleep at all), he could effectively stay up all night making alchemy stuff, right?

I mean, I get that he can still only make so many infusions or bombs in a single day (24 hour period), but that wouldn't prevent him from making, say, alchemy fire or cure light wounds potions....would it?

Crafting while adventuring limits you to 4 hours of work netting a total of 2 good hours of crafting. You might get a GM to bend on that but part of the reason is the conditions are not ideal for crafting.

As to needing rest, it does not say he requires rest or sleep but that he can only make x amount per 24 hours. The issue becomes if right after breakfast the party heads out, and faces a tough opponent requiring the alchemist to expend his extracts and bombs, if the party then rests for 8 hours, the casters all have their spells back but the alchemist doesn't.

I am not so sure things work the way you are suggesting. According to page 218 of the core rulebook, you cannot learn spells to fill slots created by casting spells later in the same day as you have cast them. I am reading that to mean that you cannot regain spells every 8 hours as you are suggesting, but that you can only your "number of spells per day" per 24 hours........

All casters are limited to a certain number of spells per day so they are all in the same boat.

i'm pretty sure clerics need to pray at the same time each day for their spells (i.e. praying again on the same day after a good long nap won't do much in the department of more spells...)
