Animal Companion Hit Points

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

For some reason I thought the rules in the past for animal companions indicated that they had average Hit Points (average rounded up/down each odd/even level). Perhaps, I'm just thinking of the ways the DM's I gamed with always ruled it?

Since I don't see this mentioned in the Pathfinder rules, I'm just curious what other DM's rule for this.

Do you have the players calculate their animal companion hit points based on the same method character hit points are calculated? (Rolled vs Half +1 vs Average)

Animal companions should take average hit points.

Pathfinder Society (PFS) uses that rule. But that is for organized play only.

What you use in your home game is between you and your GM (rolled versus an average).
