Sorry, that was very vague.
I am about to start a campaign set in Golarion as a player. I want to immerse myself into the setting to achieve as much verisimilitude as possible. It turns out there is more info already then I realized. What is the current year, what info is cannon, ect. I went to the wiki, which is put together very well but I became lost and overwhelmed. Thanks in advance| Rhys Grey |

Let's see . . . the game year is equal to our current year +2700, so the Golarion year would be 4710. The developers wanted it this way as not to make older APs/modules irrelevant, and so people could play them pretty much in any order.
It is my understanding that the Pathfinder wiki is derived from official Pathfinder Chronicles/Companion/Modules/Adventure Path/etc. sources, and--to my knowledge--is canon. Usually, the wiki posts sources used in the articles.
There will be a Pathfinder Chronicles World Book: The Inner Sea Region coming out fairly soon; it is a PFRPG-specific revision/expansion of the old OGL/3.5 book.
Does this help at all?

Heh, I was (and still am, in fact) in the same situation as you. When we started, I didn't to get myself immesrsed too much in the world, since we were just trying out Pathfinder. Now we play both 3.5 and PF equally, and when it bugged me that I don't know much about world I started reading.
I think you should start from the world as a whole and then work your way to specifics. So, start with books about Cosmology (Great Beyond, Gods and Magic, Book of the Damned), then Golarion as a whole (Campaign Setting, Races of Golarion) and then the specific regions (Guide to Absalom/Katapesh etc). That's my plan. :)

I've actually been thinking of creating a "Player's Portal" at the wiki for a while. A one-stop-shopping kind of place where people unfamiliar with Golarion could find relevant info to help them flesh-out their charcters.
Is this something that other folks would be interested in seeing, and think would be useful?

YES.
Even in the short time I've been following the boards, this is a question I've seen pop up repeatedly, and it's something that I'd have found tremendously useful myself as a starting point. Just a list of regions and topics with one- or two-sentence summaries and links to the relevant pages would've been great.
So yeah, that would've been awesome.
