Deities and Marriage

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

One thing that another thread popped into my head was the question of if any of the deities had any husbands or wifes (besides Torag). A few seem to be a definite no (Calistria, Cayden Cailean, Shelyn) while a others seem like they would have found some being to spend their lives with. Like Erastil, I find it odd that, given his beliefs, that he hasn't been married. If he is, are they still alive?

I noticed some odd things about this and the Zon-Kuthon & Shelyn relationship. Their father, an ancient animal spirit (now the Prince that Howls), is mentioned and statted up as Kuthon's herald. There's very little mention of the two gods' mother or what her deal was. I've read from the Pathfinder Wiki that she was an ancient deity of love and that when she died part of her portfolio passed to Shelyn and changed Shelyn's personality.

That combined with the little bit from Curchanos' story with Lamashtu makes me extremely curious about these little-known gods. I've never used much of the high-end Deities & Demigods stuff in my actual games, but I've always loved reading about it. Paizo's deity and extraplanar stuff has been exceptionally well done.

That's the one thing I find most disappointing about the Pathfinder Gods. There is next to no interaction between them. They are just a bunch of deities with little in common. Relationships, be it parent/children, husband/wife, brother/sister, are almost non-existent.

I'm not looking for the soap-opera world of the Greek Gods necessarily but a few more relationships along the lines of Shelyn and her brother would be nice. When a God whose portfolio includes the importance of family, Erastil, doesn't have any sort of family of his own you start to wonder.

Well, given that a good number of the gods are ascended mortals more along the lines of medieval Catholic saints or some modern voudoun loa spirits, it's not unreasonable that they don't have the full-on soap opera of the Greek or Norse pantheons yet.

Also note that the world is relatively young so not all their stories have been told yet.

More such information -- and more interaction between the gods, myths and what not would be really nice.

However I must say I don't want it in the back of the APs... I would rather that space be used for the adventure and not great stuff I want to share with my gaming buddies but can't cause I don't want them reading the book and I'm too lazy to go print/copy just the pages I don't mind them reading.

Torag really benefitted from the nine other gods in the dwarven pantheon, at least eight of which are related to him in some way.

None of the other gods, as of yet, seem to have sub-pantheons of family in this way (although Lamashtu has her four goblin demigods, and probably a few allied demon lords, and Asmodeus has the various archdevils, and perhaps even a daughter, although I haven't gotten the Hells sourcebook yet...).

From the way he is described, Erastil should have been a dual-deity.

Kind of like Gozreh is now, but even more distinct- i.e., rather then simply a male and female aspect, they should have been two separate beings (A husband and wife) sharing the portfolio. That would have also helped to reinforce their message about home and family.

(Perhaps that might have blunted the sexism charge raging in another thread.)

Perhaps they've married via coition.

I was with Desna for a while.

Cute.
And a great personality.

But I've been trying to score with Iomedae for the last few years.
