Zombies

Homebrew and House Rules

ok so i want to make some alterations to the basic zombie for a zombie apocalypse game and wanted some help.

one thing i want to add to it is a contagion that will turn you into a zombie if you get bit, i want it to be really hard to resist, I'm thinking maybe a dc 20 fortitude not to be come a zombie but would like your opinion on this.

i also want to adjust their DR, I've always felt that bludgeoning makes more sense to be the way to do real damage to an undead but again would like your opinion on it.

i would like any thoughts or opinions on what i should do and what the CR should be for them, has anyone else done anything like this?

i am going for movie style zombies

I disagree on the bludgeoning type, slashing seems most efficient.

perhaps look at the plague zombie from the bestiary to use as a base of inspiration too.

- give them int 1, making them capable of using skills (perception, no class skill) and an extra feat (ability focus; disease making the DC 13 for the average zombie), if you like adjust charisma to 14 as well for extra hp and make the disease more powerful (DC 15 total, for the basic human type zombie)

- buff up the disease a bit.

Zombie Fever: (bite)

> onset 1d4 hours
> frequency 1/hour 1d3 con/1d3 dex
> rise as a zombie instantly, when you die of the disease.

- adjustments for flavor :

> remove the 'death burst' ability
> make them bite half of the time, rather than a slam
> give them +2 channel resistance

> most likely victims will not be warrior types, so adjust ability scores to represent commoners str 13 dex 8 con - int 1 wis 10 cha 14, for example.

Ogre Plague Zombie

str 23 dex 6 con - int 1 wis 10 cha 14

HD 4d8+12 (30)
AC 11 (+4 natural, -2 dex, -1 size)

feats ability focus (disease), toughness(b), improved natural armor

attack: +8 1d8+9 (disease DC 16)

you could make them wear hide armor still to give them a penalty to hit and a + on armor class AC 15, attack +5

If you want the disease really hard to resist you could just make it a steady DC of 20 for instance, though it might be too much.

ability focus should not work then in the case of 'intelligent' zombies and you could instead take other passive feats like improved natural armor or improved natural attack.

if you have classic horrors revisted, you could make a brain-eating relentless zombie. the text for brain-eating is open ended enough that you could change the 2d6 hours after being killed to 2d6 hours after being bitten. perhaps the only cure is remove disease or a greater effect during that time period (or even 1/2 that time period if you want the party to do their best not to get ate).

Shadow Lodge

The World of Aruneus - Contagion Infected Zombies

Itchy...tasty.

so you think if i go with a bite that works like poison that slowly kills you and then you come back as a zombie?

any other ideas?
