Stealth Invisibility and Arcane Sight

Rules Questions

If a rogue with some magic items uses stealth and a Wizard with Permanent Arcane Sight uses perception and does not beat the rogue's stealth check does he know that someone is near? How does this really works? Does he see the rogue items' magical aura ?

If the same rogue uses invisibility and stealth can the same wizard pinpoint him?

So does Arcane Sight just nullify a rogue with magical items ability to hide ?

How this thing works? Any help is really appreciated.

Liberty's Edge

He would be able to identify that a christmas-tree of magic is in that 5ft square, and what school those magical effects are. He would probably suspect it is a creature (being able to see that the auras move), but would not be able to confirm it without casting dispel or finding some other way to see it.
Total cover still works (with most material) as it blocks arcane sight.
Also, nondetection blocks all divination (allowing for a good CL check) and can prevent this as well. It costs a good bit more than permanent arcane sight (35 grand versus 7.5 grand), but it blocks all divinations.
EDIT: I'm referring to getting an amulet of nondetection (has a longer name, but means the same thing). It's a core magic item that all rogues should get. It also helps those evil types who are infiltrating good.

Short answer yes. A wizard has a high int and putting together the visual glow (which arcane sight is even if detect magic is not) of the rogues magic items with "there's a heavily decked out adventurer in that spot" isn't exactly rocket science.

SO lets say that the Rogue who is using spell invisible or is invisible through stealth and is decked out with magic items. What would Detect Magic do?. Would the wizard be able to pinpoint the location of the creature and thus negate the bonuses and negatives from Invisible Creature?

It appears to be almost like a personal Faerie Fire spell allowing caster to see this aura and track NPC's or players, would anyone else agree or disagree with this?

We had this come up in a game recently, and we are all curious just how this would work (can the rogue get sneak attack off vs a wizard who with detect magic may see him and pinpoint his location get sneak attack and bonuses?

Wally the wizard is looking for the rogue.

Round 1: cast detect magic. You know if there is magic SOMEWHERE in your cone of vision

Round 2: the wizard knows the number of different magical auras and the power of the most potent aura, so he would pick up the fact that there were multiple enchantments somewhere in his line of vision and know that there was some mild magic unless the rogue was packing anything worse than invis

Round 3: wally knows which square and at which strength each aura is in.

-Against arcane sight you're borked. Against detect magic drop something on the ground and move out of his cone. You should probably get a rank in spellcraft to know that though.
