does anyone think that it would be a cool idea to make a base class based around using flintlocks, i was thinking of writing up a class but wanted to get some opinions.

ya can do that with a fighter, just some flintlock feats. Maybe a PRC would be a good fit for what ya want.

to be honest i have sort of fallen out of prc, i just have not interest in them, i have some really cool ideas of what i could do with the class.

Prc's are not my thing either, but it may fit. I myself just do not see the point in a base class that can be pulled off with a core class and feats.

i do see your point, and it may not work for most people.

i see guns in general like a power source in its own right and could see some unique abilities based on them. i am a little inspired from the move wanted as well but that's not the only thing i am thinking of.

I as well mirror your sentiment on the whole issue of PrC's but they offer some distinct advantages in terms of narrowing the flavor of a given class as well as allowing for a more unique set of abilities that would not be possible to get eslewhere.

The issue with gunpowder based weapons is foremost the price and acquisition of said items. In Golarion there is only one country that produces them at all. In this country there is one factory, and even at that they only produce one small arm a day. Meaning that these weapons are (To my interpretation) even harder to get your hands on than a non unique non artifact magical item.

That all being said, you can give the player gunslinger as a bonus 1st level feat once they get obtain the PrC. This among other normal requisites, such as BaB of +5 and various ranged weapon feats.

It need only be a 5 level progression.

That bit aside I am really disappointed at the lack of variety available for ranged weapon users in PF so far using only the PFS materials.

i will write i rough outline of what i am thinking and see what you all think. my gaming group plays out of our own world so we dont deal with the set guidlines of galorian.

I like the Kobold Quarterly Arqubusier Class

Oh that works out pretty nice then. Go ahead and write it up then, I will give it a run over once you shoot a rough draft out.

i never saw that one, what kind of class was it?

is the gunslinger feat the only feat based towards firearms?

I'm running a steampunk/renaissance campaign with possibly a bit of wild west in there and one of the big things in the game are flintlocks and revolving flintlocks. I had honestly thought about making a musketeer type base-class but after starting I realized that it would work just as good as a Fighter, Rogue, Ranger combat style, etc. So I came up with some variants for some base classes and I even made variants for the Assassin and Duelist. All of them can be seen here

It's the only one made by Paizo, there is another named Quick load that lets you reload a firearm as a move action if you have the prereqs.

Thats why I mentioned that the PrC could open alot of doors in your game as far as the feat and special abilities go for firearms.
