Saves on Gentle Rest?

My cleric of Pharasma has the Repose Domain, and thus the Gentle Rest (sp) domain power. I can't seem to find any notice anywhere of this power granting a saving throw to resist. Can anyone clarify if it does?

This ability does not permit a saving throw.

As a general rule (note: exceptions do exist), spells/abilities that require attack rolls usually don't require saves. Most of the exceptions are quite powerful, thus they require both an attack roll and a save (two d20 rolls for success) to mitigate their power.

Gentle Repose is fairly weak so it doesn't need to be balanced by two d20 rolls. Furthermore, those abilities that do require a save always state that there is a save, what kind of save, and what the DC is. With no such explicit save description for this ability, then there is no save allowed (as knightofstyx tersely, but correctly, already pointed out).

Both of the above posts are correct, as written, it has no save. A DM might choose to add a save against a second attack.

As written, the target is staggered for a period, but if it is touched again while staggered they fall asleep. A sleeping character is helpless and that's a bit much to suffer without a save roll.

It can be a very powerful ability.

My apologies if my answer came across as rude. I did not mean to offend.

On a side note, we recently played a game with two clerics of pharasma and a rogue. They created a combo where they would both touch an enemy while the rogue was adjacent and the rogue would coup de grace for the win. Quite effective.

That still requires 2 standard actions, 2 successful touch attacks, and a full round action to pull off.

If the clerics had both cast hold person, and the target failed 1 of the 2 saves with the rogues in melee, it would have had the same effect.

True, but in my experience two touch attacks are a lot easier to pull off than one failed save (not to mention SR).

Gentle Repose is a spell like ability, thus...

A. it provokes if you use it in melee.
B. has to overcome SR just like hold person.

A. I agree.
B. I agree.

However, it's less concerting to expend a use of Gentle Repose than to waste a spell on SR.

I'm not disagreeing with you Charender, I'm just saying that in my group's normal day to day adventuring, this combo was extremely powerful. Especially considering our arcane caster was an elemental sorcerer. He didn't want to waste his spells known on spells that have no effect if the creature makes the save (understandably so).

Neither does my wizard. At 8th level, I don't have any prepared spell that allows a save - even spells that have reduced effect on a save. Nothing. Every spell I prepare either does its effect with no save (Magic Missile - and I've even stopped using that), or it summons something, or it affects me or my allies, or it's just a plain utility spell like Dimension Door.

Zero saves = zero fails.

Although, I just got access to Black Tentacles, and it seems useful enough to actually start preparing it, so I may begin breaking my own rule here soon.
