Does anyone realise how awesome the Pathfinder Bestiary is for a coffee table book?

Liberty's Edge

Has anyone notice how nice the Pathfinder Bestiary is for people who come over? I've been keeping mine by the coffee table, and people always check it out when they stop by. I even find myself looking it over constantly, because its so awesome to look at all the cool illustrations and read the descriptions of different types of monsters, many of which are familiar to most people.

If the second Bestiary is layed out as good and has excellent artwork, I will have another book to add to my coffee table collection.

Judging from the artwork we've seen coming in for Bestiary 2, it won't be as good as Bestiary 1.

It will be better.

Ha!

You had me going there for a moment, lol.

My mother loves D&D books. Especially monster manuals, because they have the most pictures. ^^

My mother thinks that RPG's are somewhere between Nazi-stuff and satanism. To quote her: "I'd rather have you running around with a rat on your shoulder." So I have all my RPG stuff up in the attic where I sleep. Thank all gods of all D&D-settings she's afraid of heights. :D

When I first picked up my copy at the FLGS, I had gamers that didn't even play D&D/Pathfinder looking through it because of the artwork. I also had 4E players thinking about buying a copy, not because they were going to abandon their system of choice, but because they liked the illustrations of the monsters so much that they wanted to have the book to show their players what several of them "really" looked like.

Godwin's Law in the 4th post, is that a record ?

Anyway. PFRPG books are great for many uses. Domestic defense, coffee table, press weights, workout dumbbells ... I'm finding a new use every week !

Dig a small grave in the garden, inscribe 'irony' on the gravestone.

That wasn't my intention. I'm just used to my parents being openly hostile and other parents being indifferent to mildly interested. That someone has parents who actually want to look into an RPG book is amazing for me.

Huh? ó_Ò

generally i leave all my monster books on the coffee table cuz they are fun to look at, and the best way to let people see D & D stuff in your home, thus helping get more friends involved with the game. i hide the massive rules books until i have them on the line and interested.

You talk about irony? Listen too this: My mother is a pastor and she introduced me and my brothre to our first dungeon crawl board game. she loves fantasy stuff and lets my dad play heavy metal in the living room all day. ^^

(This calls for another "USA vs. Europe" motivator. ;) )

Resist, fight, struggle ! Let the CG (or CN. or maybe even CE) part of you take over. Smash the parental authority into nothingness and bask in the shining light of your satanic heresy ! If I were you, I'd run all over the house, stark naked, holding my Pathfinder Core Rulebook high and chanting "Klaatu Barada Nikto" on the top of my voice.

Dark Archive

The 3.0 Monster Manual was the kids favorite book growing up. Every time I turned around, 'Can I look at the monster book?'

I'm sure the Bestiary would have been as big a hit, had it been out back then!

Dark Archive

It's not just the beautiful art... the lay-out is also amazing! It's one of the most gorgeous RPG books I've seen, and I constantly flip through the book. I also feel inspired by the descriptions, and I don't think I've ever used such a variety of monsters in my campaigns.

I just can't wait for Bestiary 2! :)

I've got that beat. My grandparents introduced me to D&D through buying me the boardgame edition of OD&D that came out in the early 90s, since "it was for smart kids and grownups with an interest in fantasy". I was 12 when I got it and I haven't looked back.

lol, my mother left the church and was a fan of the original Star Trek and Sergio Leone movies. However all computer games that contain violence are bad (The SIMS is bad too for some reason), roleplaying games are generally bad, but especially for me, others can do what they want. :D

Hehe. Since every argument about that comes to the point where they threaten to throw me out I have given up trying to convince them, just do my stuff and only argue if they complain. So far they never went through with it and I never gave in except one time when I moved my World of Darkness stuff to a friend for a short time (they wanted me to get rid of it completely. :D

Being able to let my stuff lie around is something I save for when I have a flat of my own.

But back to topic: The art of the Pathfinder books is generally great. The Bestiary is just the one with the most illustrations. I really would like a book with a lot of humanoid archetypes like the ones in the PHB. Maybe some kind of NPC compendium.

and I can top that. I don't personaly know the guy but someone on the d&d forums said he used to play d&d with a nun!!! Him and his freinds played in the back of the church andin return went to Sunday school. The nun who took the class asked to play and became a regular player as a cleric of 'god'. To simplify it they replaced her spells with any mirical any of the saints had preformed that she could remember. I'll see if I can dig up the thread. It was a good read

Liberty's Edge

I think I should add that when you guys are ready, you should release a book showing the art of the Pathfinder line. Full art books with a short description of each scene would be an excellent thing to show friends who stop by.

I think they've said in the past that art books don't sell very well (cf. the artwork of Dragon book).

Liberty's Edge

Unfortunately I've heard this too about art books in general. Well maybe something like I wanted will be there down the road in the future if we're lucky.
