Seattle's Best vs Starbucks - A Morning Conundrum

PaizoCon General Discussion

Ive seen both listed in potential morning meets and, considering both are based in the Seattle area, what's the best of the two? I always considered SB's White Chocolate Mocha (with nice shavings of white chocolate) to be the better of the two. Yes, I am looking to incite a religious war among locals ;-)

But also - are there any good, non chain contenders near the hotel?

Funny thing, Starbucks owns Seattle's Best. I would say that any difference is imagined... ;-)

That said, for coffee nearby the hotel, I'd recommend going over to Whole Foods...very nice coffee there.

Shhhhh. Not everyone knows, but they're owned by the same company. The products are mostly different though. What hotel are you at? For smaller chains in the area check out Cafe Ladro, Cafe Fiore, or Cafe Vita. They each have several stores scattered around the emerald city.

I recommend drinking the hotel coffee, because it's probably better than Seattle's Best or (gah) Starbucks. Overpriced, overbrewed swill.

The Whole Foods by the hotel has quite a nice beer selection as well. Deli is also good.

Is Whole Foods like a minimarket? I need to find me a market...

So...when people say Starbuck's is Seattle's "best" coffee...they're technically correct. :-D

Well, that takes care everything after 7 AM ;-)

Lucky me, I have a good friend that lives near Crossroads Mall (http://www.crossroadsbellevue.com/) with whom I bunk when I have business or pleasure in the area, then just drive down to the hotel.

<coffee snob>Oh sure if you want to taste the roast instead of the bean. West coast tastes tend to lean too dark for my liking. </coffee snob>

In all honesty, you really do lose a lot of the flavor from the bean the darker the roast gets. Try and find the floral flavor notes in a french roast Guatemalan bean ... then try to do the same in a full city roast Guatemalan bean. It's a world of difference.

Yes, I am a snob when it comes to coffee. Comes from working with the bean for almost a decade, from roast master to barista and various points in between.

They might both be owned by the same company but their coffees taste nothing alike.

Of the two I prefer Seattle's Best, not only does the coffee taste better, but the food is better as well (carrot cake and chocolate chip cookies FTW).

Noah's Bagels has some good coffee, if I remember correctly. Great bagels, too.

I don't know about any locations in Bellevue, but you should try to get into Seattle and try a cup of the Clover-brewed coffee from Starbucks. I have a cup of this little slice of heaven just about every morning.

I prefer the 100% Kona, but the New Guinea Peaberry is also fantastic.

...I love where I live. :)

Me too. And I really got tired of this dark roast stuff. I will take a light or medium roast over dark for a good cup o' joe.

I prefer coffees from Africa most of all, although the Indonesian coffees are nice too.

My favorites are Kenya AA, and East Timor. Ethiopian Harrar is nice as well.

Which is why I recommended Whole Foods. They often have those beans.

For home, I buy my coffee beans from Trader Joe's. SO. GOOD.

The hubby prefers roasts and beans from the Middle East, I prefer mine from Indonesia...Good to have a variety to choose from!

As a side note, for those that are unable to drink coffee anymore, I present to you Teeccino. Very tasty and tastes almost exactly like coffee, with some herbal overtones.

Silver Crusade

I prefer Peet's as my normal purchased bags for home, but often go by whatever is on sale. I'm not incredibly snobbish about it. But yeah, not everyone in Seattle actually drinks Starbucks. I only do so when there are no other options nearby.

No, I think "Seattle's best coffee is Starbucks" is technically correct.

*Strokes chin*

Hrmmmmm…beer coffee…

I would take Kona over either of them as well. Same as Kenya AA

This is funny - I actually knew this because "Seattle's Best" is the variety of Starbucks provided at my work.

All nasty smelly dirt water to me :)
