Hey guys, it's me. I'm getting ready to run a heavily revised PF campaign in a week or two, we'll be playing at least once a week, but if the group can arrange to meet online more often than that then I'd be happy to run it more often.
It'll be a completely open sandbox, where your characters are free to do whatever they wish according to their personalities and backstories. Feel free to be an Evil SOB if that's what the character is, but also be warned the party might gank you if you piss them off too much.
I'll get the material posted online somewhere as soon as I'm able, but for now I'm opening this thread to discuss the characters that want to play.
So far the only character that is certain is a Paladin, incase you guys were hoping to avoid doubling up on classes. Don't worry about roles though, the game really won't care about roles, and if I've done my job well on the revisions, a party should be roughly as effective with a Fighter, Barbarian, Monk, and Paladin as it would with a Wizard, Fighter, Rogue, and Cleric.
So... lets start discussing things and see how the characters come together. (Also I will note, that generally speaking we will be creating the world together as we play, and that usually the only parts that are designed before play starts is the home towns/regions of the PC's)
We'll be doing this on Windows Live Messenger (which has a dice roller available for it, don't feel like linking it right now because I'm really tired, I'll get it up soon though), so if you don't have it but this campaign idea appeals to you feel free to join the discussion, and if you end up really wanting to play then I'd suggest you download it lol.

Oh, right, here's the stat array.
18, 16, 14, 14, 12, 10, arrange as desired, before racial modifiers.
Every even level you will get +2 stat points to put where you want, you can't boost the same stat twice in a row.
Inherant bonuses don't exist in game, I'm still debating whether or not stat boosting magic items will, this game is intended to largely focus on the PC's abilities. I'll have more information on that later.

i think i will try a human ninja w/ the advanced template. if you feel the need to beef the template up, go ahead. (tis the bestiary template w/ +4 to each stat) female, japanese style flavor, described as being half yokai (which explains her heightened attributes, eternal youth, and minor sensory powers) she will appear to look like a child of 12 years (even though she is 1331 years old and unnaffected by age), wear a black winter weight kimono, and her primary weapon of choice is a pair of retractable spring loaded daggers. (dagger stats) her kimono contains pockets inside the sleeves, she is cold, sadistic, playful, calculating, calm, and a little paranoid. her smile is perpetual, her eyes are a golden color, each eye having 2 slit like pupils.
but kyrt, i need you to send me your ninja adaption.
the advanced template is the quick template that adds +4 to every stat for +1 ecl. a minor sensory ability would be nice to add to it. such as darkvision. throwing in a free feat for the template should be enough.
if the advanced template isn't strong enough with +4 to every stat, i reccomend adding these changes
add darkvision +1 extra feat of player choice.

Sounds like a cool idea Neko. Sadly it's buried in one of my email accounts and right now I'm so wasted that I can't find it.
(Do feel free to work on her backstory though, flesh out the important experiences that made her how she is, which area she currently lives and why, and why she's a ninja (or some other concept that happens to use ninja mechanics lol)
Goodnight people, I'll reply to anything and everything when I wake up.

Any particular reason you're considering magic items to be ineffective? What is the point of money then?
Well, if we're not going with the magic item thing, then money won't be the point, plot will. The game wouldn't be about taking people's stuff, it would be about accomplishing things.
(I'll hit you with the class as soon as I find it Pinky)

Sanctus, a flan (human) paladin under the deity zodal. Standing at five foot eleven and weighing in at a hundred and sixty pounds, dark brown hair neatly tied back, black eyes and bronzed skin, San had shown himself to be a prime example of what Zodal wishes, but capable of fighting in defense if no other end can be met. San is kind, patient, wishes to use violence as a final option, but is not as gifted with healing as he is with weaponry and fighting.
San is armed with a great hammer, but also carries with him a longsword and a heavy shield, protected by full plate armor, though nondescript and grey, it fit perfectly with his deity who favored kindness, grey coloring and simplicity.

Suny, is that you? I need a partner, and I think we make a great team, he he.
I so felt like just posting "No, I in't me. I is my evil twin." But that probably wouldn't have gone over too well. :P Well, given the rather open nature of this affair, I might even rebuild Meera my Fey-ri Chaotic Monk. =) Ideas, hints, tips welcome.

That would work. Also I just want to point out, there's nothing wrong with being evil if that's your choice. Just be warned if you don't get along with the party and it comes to blows your on your own lol.

Cool, good to know. I had so much fun with the 3.0 version of Meera.
*Runs hands together*
Okay, real life getting in the way, so Meera wont be available for viewing until some time late Friday my time (Sometime Thursday for those on the other side of the world).
Wait...'Windows Live Messenger'? What's that?
Sorry I'm a bit of a Tech-Luddite. :(
Cheers!

i really don't want to replicate an existing role, i think i will go with a Ronin (mechanically fighter) instead. i realized that i already have a ninjaesque pc in another pbp and 2 versions of the same character would be hard to track. i will keep the race the same (as kyrt worked so hard to make it)

But who will teach me all that I know? *flies over to Meera* Hi, can we be friends?
kyrt-ryder
kyrt, would you allow a variant of the dervish dance feat that works with the katana instead of the scimitar?
Yeah, I'll come up with something similar to make it work for you.
@everybody: I'm sorry I haven't gotten my stuff finished, my grandpa is in the hospital with severe conditions and I've been gone much of the day, but I am making solid progress.
We should probably start discussing game-times.
Also, for those who don't have all the necessary software, here it all is.
If/When you have Windows Live Messenger installed, you will need to download this...
That is the software that allows you to run scripts. Once you've got it installed, you'll need to download the script itself...
Once all of those are installed, this is the dice script for rolling in the messneger client (it's listed on the script, but some people have had a hard time figuring it out, so I feel it's best to post it here)
/roll #d# (+ or -)#
For example
/roll 1d20
results in a rolled d20
/roll 1d20+6
results in a rolled d20 with 6 added at the end.
Really simple once you get the hang of it.
If you want to roll several dice at once (for example, attack roll and damage) place a comma or semi-colen between the scripts.
/roll 1d20+6, 2d6+9
Will result in both results separately, such as...
22, 16 (as an example)
kyrt-ryder
Okay, once the things installed....how do I turn it on...? :/
Windows Live Messenger should have a button somewhere in your start panel (I'm assuming you use a PC, since normally only the tech people have Mac's), and a little silouete of a green person in the icons on the bottom right of your screen.
Once you sign into Windows Live Messenger, MSN plus should start on it's own and run you through setup. (You may need to re-download the dice rolling script if you hadn't had MSN plus installed and running before you downloaded it, but you won't know for sure until you get it running and try rolling dice)

Nope. I got nuthin'......
Yes I am using a PC.

When I find how to turn it on, then I'll figure out this next bit...
Where's the actual "Press this to start application"? I can install the thing, but there's nothing else I can find.

I worked a little on my character. i gave her a younger sister that is to level as everyone else does, right now, she is like a free non combat hireling, but may become a replacement character should her older sister die in battle. this here is the alt. it has 2 ecl 2 characters statted up, (that may be upped later according to upped party ecl)
i figured out how the dice roller works thanks to kyrt.
Kodachi Nekogami
She checks out pretty well Neko. I hadn't really planned on using traits, but we'll see what the others think.
Also, what time(s) are best for you?
these are all in the pacific (california) time zone
almost any day except thursday and saturday. usually any time after 2ish in the afternoon to about 10ish. if i have a special errand, i will post in this thread.
saturdays, i would have to finish before 3 to get ready to leave at 4 for whole night
thursdays i have to start after 4-6ish (depending on errands) as i have appointments that end at 330ish in the afternoon
fridays i have to start after 2-3ish in the afternoon as before that, i am out of the house for lunch with my grandmother, which i do every friday. we rotate who pays. but tis a time where grandma yells at me less.
my pc takes forever to load (even with top end AT&T internet).
Kodachi Nekogami
Kyrt, i know we collaberated on a race before. but i found the perfect middleground. Tis balanced enough for +0 CR and needs no racial hit dice any longer. i find it much more flavorful (and fitting) than a human with 1 outsider hit dice and +8 worth of stat bonuses. tis not a niche race either. it may be a little suboptimal, but the race was not an attempt to minmax. though it does make a fine ninja or swordsage.

So, do we have a character roster yet, Kurt?
Not a full roster (er, at least, we aren't full yet lol, though we have enough to play)
So far we have...
A Paladin of Zodal
A Stealth Pseudo-dragon (either Ninja or Rogue, I'll get you those classes soon Pinky, sorry it's taking so long, my grandpa's been in the hospital for the last week or two, and just died this morning. It's been a hectic time.)
And....
A cat-girl 'Ronin' who's likely going with fighter but may use a different melee focused class.
We've got three potential slots left, and I have to warn you guys I don't think the Paladin's going to be doing much healing, so just keep that in mind, and feel free to invite anybody that comes to mind as a potential player.

heres the alias for the catgirl ronin's younger NPC sister. (A.K.A. the tagalong child) the one i have arranged with Kyrt for Kyrt to control.
Kodachi Nekogami
my above post lists an NPC that Kyrt Approved on msn messenger beforehand. he will control her actions in combat. but i will roplelay her out of combat on this particular alias (on Kodachi Nekogami). i also have control over the vital statitistics of said npc. (feats, class levels, ability increases, skill points, etc) i posted as said alias to provide Kyrt with a legible copy of her stats.

Ok guys, I'm finishing up the last of the mechanical stuff as we speak. It would be great if you would all introduce yourselves (your OOC selves as roleplayers, how you tend to play, things like that), and tell a bit about your characters.
Well this will be interesting, he he.
Here goes. I am 40 years old, and I have been doing this dnd dtuff since I was a child. (yeah, late 70's, he he) I have played all the editions of DnD all the way from Basic, through 4E. If you want to see the kind of RP I like, just click on my profile and check out some of the characters in the PbP games I am in. i am in quite a few, he he. I have even dipped my toe in DMing a solo adventure for a newbie on the boards.
I have to warn you though, I do get into *ahem* 'mature' themes at times, so be forewarned, he he.

Somewhat mature is cool, just try not to go all X rated lol. (I don't mind things going clear up to the point of rape or whatever being in the game, just generally speaking without player consent that kind of stuff stays off-screen you know)

10-4, not a problem. Good thing i'm playing a pseudodragon, he he.

i'm 21 and actually male, have played D&D since i was about 17-18ish, i have done freeform rp since i was about 10 or so. my freeform days were full of characters i am still attached to today and munchkins that i disliked. most of which could destroy multiverses by snapping thier fingers. i have gone through a few groups. i exxagerrate embelished stories at my saturday dms expense, many poke fun at his closed mindedness. i enjoy anime/manga/wuxia/action movies. my favorite anime is still Cardcaptor Sakura. i like my characters a little exotic, or at least alternately interpreted. such as catgirl ronins. even though i have had mostly hack and slash groups. i like there to be a balance of combat and roleplay. i abandoned gaia online about 5 years ago. after the "hide or die" situations increased from bimonthly to daily. my current character for this particular game is a catgirl ronin. i prefer the asian cultures over the european ones. (especially japan, china, persia etc)
Kodachi Nekogami
i like the asian cultures too, only because i am asian haha (japanese)
you are so lucky. i wish i was japanese. too bad i'm a white american. america has 2 thriving cultures. the geek, and some modernized variant of the rogue. instead of the Grey Mouser, we got stuck with Snoop Dogg as our Iconic "Rogue." what a disgrace to fantasy literature everywhere. Typical Americans do little unless it is a means to aqcuire thier next meal.

I beg to differ. I practice martial arts, use of the halberd and bow, and I know a thing or two about survival out in the elements. I'm hardly an archetype(Or typical, I guess...), but I do more than what it takes to get my next meal.
I would like to join you guys, but I unfortunately don't have enough time to play in a non pbp game. Have fun!

Yeah... that was a pretty awkward and (in my opinion) inaccurate claim Neko made, part of the reason we quit posting in here xD.
As for not having enough time, don't be so sure my friend. All it really takes is one or two hours of free time you can commit to spending a week, but it's your call Madcap.
Either way, good luck with everything man.
