i'm wondering how weapon focus is supposed to work with a dwarven waraxe. i'll give an example. you've got a dwarven fighter 1. he takes weapon focus dwarven waraxe at first level. now say he likes to swap it up and 2hand the axe sometimes and go axe and shield the other times. would the benefit from weapon focus apply to both situations or do you have to pick if it's weapon focus the 2handed martial version or the 1handed exotic version?
Weapon Focus applies to all attacks you make with the chosen weapon, regardless of if you attack with it as a 1-handed or a 2-handed weapon.
Yeah, the feat reads:
Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make using the selected weapon.
So, whether you attack with one hand or two, the bonus applies to both situation.
The dwarven waraxe is still one weapon whether or not you are proficient with it. You just can't be versatile with the weapon unless you are proficient. So long as you have at least martial weapon proficiency with the dwarven waraxe, you can get the +1 to hit if you are using it two-handed. If you also have exotic weapon proficiency, are size Large, or are a dwarf, you can use the waraxe one-handed and get the +1 to hit.
You can use every one-handed weapon two-handed. Waraxes and bastard swords only have the exception that you need a feat or racial trait to be proficient with the one-handed use.
As weapon focus for a longsword works both when wielded one- or two-handed, same goes for astard sword and waraxe.

you can't use 2 hands on a light weapon or almost all finessable weapons. i was only unsure because things like the dwarven waraxe and bastard sword count as two different weapon types for most characters. i just wanted to get a clarification of the feat text. i've got it now though. thanks for all the input
