I was thinking one night about one of my friends who posts all sorts of anti-Obama stuff on Facebook, and I was thinking that a lot of the stuff he posted is not even metaphysically valid.
Then my Other Hand said "Well, once you posted the following to Facebook:
'Sarah Palin is going Rogue again. She is working towards a burglar prestige class so she can steal Nancy Pelosi's makeup kit.'
What does that even mean?"
So, I was thinking, what does that mean? The idea of working towards a prestige class only makes sense in Third Edition D&D and in Pathfinder, and what would it mean if one Pathfinder character said to another "Sarah the Pale is going Rogue again. She is working towards a burglar prestige class"
========================
My thoughts considered how I would put this into context in my homebrew world of Audor. Perhaps there is some baroness in a northern province who had resigned her position. People might say "She is going rogue," which could have multiple meanings just as it does in America.
1. I've put some thought into class identity in Audor, and it does not necessarily have a 1 to 1 correspondence with the classes in the Player's Handbook. But there is a recognized occupation of Adventurer, and most Adventurer parties will want someone with a certain set of talents. People with these talents may introduce themselves as "Rogues", and may join "Thieves Guilds" to practice, learn, and advertise their abilities. To say that Sarah is "going Rogue" could mean that she is advertising Rogue skills and abilities.
I've also considered that Audor may have certifications, so to say she is "going Rogue again" could mean that she is achieving higher and more difficult certifications.
Some guilds may have specialized purposes and training, sometimes malevolent, sometimes benevolent, usually neutral. There may be one that trains in the skills of the Thief-Acrobat Prestige Class, or the Arcane Trickster, or the Bogeyman PrC. These elite guilds would have specialized requirements to join -- you'd have to pass a test to demonstrate sufficient mastery of technique. So there could be rumors about "Sarah the Pale" wanting to get into one of these elite guilds.
2. The other meaning of "Going Rogue" in America would also apply in Audor. In America, the phrase indicates that Sarah is claiming a sort of alignment that in Pathfinder would be considered Chaotic. Assuming that Sarah the Pale is continuing in political activities, her claim to be "Going Rogue" could be a claim to a Chaotic alignment that is in opposition to the stuffy Paladins who might have been criticizing her political activities when she was a baroness (a job which she quit as the Judges were preparing to hear a legal case against her).
Chaotic of course does not mean evil. Audor has a long tradition of Chaotic Good heroes. So by saying that she is "Going Rogue", she could be claiming to be one of those.

That's about the length of the bus ride to and from my last job. I slept most mornings and read most afternoons. ;)

I have an hour and 15 minutes each way, and I listen to podcasts...i keep having to discover new ones as i listen to the back catalogs and, with 15 hours a week travelling, I then run out.
It is also a good time to read modules/scenerios I am running. It also means I don't have a heap of unread Paizo stuff...plenty of time to read stuff after all.
