Well looks like we need some help. Playing one of the adventure paths and ran into a derro wizard. To cut a long (oh so long) story short he used Baleful polymorph on my rogue, who naturally failed both saves and instantly became an angry monkey. To make matters worse the rogue was under greater invisibility before this happened. Now afetr much discussion we decided he would keep Sneak attack (not listed as an Ex/Su/Sp ability). He angrily killed a derro who fumbled around trying to attack him and and grab him, leaping upon him and teariung out his throat with an invisible sneak attack, then went on to eat the fruit on the table in the same hall.
Well now the rest of the PC's want to catch him. Unfortunately we have this unique problem.
A killer monkey capable of a 7d6 neak attack. With skills like stealth +35 (not including any monkey bonuses if they apply), disable device +31 (-5 for no tools, -10 or 15 for circumstance, perception +20. So he can hide well and get into most things with a little time to "play" around and is hard to sneak up on. Oh and finally some items - Since constantly running items remain in use when polymorphed I sadly pointed out that the he is a monkey under the influence of a ring of freedom of action AND a ring of mind shielding, and possibly the +10 stealth bonus from his shadowed armour (raising this to +45). Being a non-humanoid with 2 intelligence also makes many enchantments impossible.
So now Cauldorn has a killer, ill tempered monkey that can be scryed/detected, grappled or grabbed and is very stealthy. Sure the situation may not arise often but what happens to a town when shiny items and delicious foods go missing, or people wind up dead when they try to stop the monkey or take his stuff from him. A spate of thefts and murders...
Have we gone wrong somewhere in our interpretation of the rules? Any suggestions on how to catch the beast - I want my rogue back. Oh and the party attempting to recapture him consists of a paladin, fighter, dwarven monk, sorcerer and barbarian (with NO animal skills).

Buy every banana in town.
Stick them in a big pile in the middle of an open , well lit room, that has one door and no windows. with no other objects to provide cover.
Have the party wizard memorize several dispel magics.
Have the party wizard wait invisible, not moving, until the monkey shows up to steal the bananas.
Cast Dispel magic, targetting the polymorph. If it fails, the monkey will be unable to sneak attack, since it won't be able to hide without cover. Just keep casting it until it works.
The rest of the party should just block the door.

Unfortunately, all the methods available to your buddies, are also available (plus many more) to your enemies.
It's a few years since I was a player in this, but without even trying to check, I know full well that there's a ton of folk in Cauldron who would have no trouble dealing with this guy, and if Klepto the Monkey does try nicking their shinies, they'll not only be able to see him clearly, but tell exactly who he is under the monkey-suit
If this is the encounter I think it is, then you're already on a good few people's shit-list, so I guess they've no reason to pull their punches.
So long, Klepto the Monkey!
Time to get out your 4d6.
If it's any consolation, by this point, I'd already been disintegrated.

web/rock to mud?
Free action in effect so anything that impedes m,ovement automaytically fails.
As for the awakened monkey - If I'd made the will save and kept my own mind I would have said this was a great change, as it stands now its just plain funny adn has left the party a little bemused.
And yes we are aware of the powerful folk in cauldron, so it's really a race to see who cann get to him first. The mind shielding ruing effect makes it very hard for anyone to detect him and tell just who he was before the polymorph - especially since every "bad guy"witness to the event in dead, still wor dwill get around.

I am missing something here.
How is the ring of mind shielding preventing divination spells from finding your monkey? The ring protects against detect thoughts, discern location and any attempts to discern alignment. Nothing there for location.
So, scry, find, arrive there, cast hold monster on the monkey, scoop it up and return to lair, where dispels are cast?

If you seriously want your PC back, I'd say this is a perfect moment for a planar ally. How the ally pulls it off isn't terribly important. That's for the DM to decide. Any chance the sorcerer can pull a high enough UMD check to use a scroll of such? My SCAP campaign ended a few years ago, so I don't remember if you've got access to any high-level cleric friends.
Really, you need some divination spells here. forcecage can be useful, if you've got it, but you need some outsider information. Heh. Outsider information. I slay myself. But seriously, I don't think you can pull this off with only arcane spells.
Physically stopping him might not be too hard if you can find him. speak with animals could be useful, but again I don't know if you can manage to get it cast.
Other musings. Can your monk reliably trip? Can your sorcerer charm monster? glitterdust? blindness?
Can your sorcerer basically cast a few empowered kill the monkey spells and you folks pay someone to raise dead?
Again, I think finding him is your hardest problem, but without know what access (if any) you've got to divine spells, I don't know how screwed you are.
Stupid question... has the money left the building?

ummm you said the ring protects against discerning location... then said it does nothing for location...
so how does it do both?

My bad, too little sleep and too much caffeine. I should have wrote:
