I promised my niece I would come to watch the middle school play she's in this weekend. I don't have the heart to back out now.

So, anyone heard of some play called The King In Yellow? Please tell me I'm going to be able to stay awake through this bloody thing.

You would be wrong...it would be the play/stories that inspired Lovecraft, seeing they are written in 1800s - about a 1920s America.

Cassilda's Song

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink beneath the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.
Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.
Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.
Song of my soul, my voice is dead;
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.

Be ready to cower in fear.

You, sir, should unmask

I had no idea that there was a play. Post a review, if you don't mind!

You're going to be able to stay awake because your niece is going to be wonderful and you are a good uncle.

Wasn't there an adventure in Dungeon based on this? Now I'm going to have to find it when I get home :\

Dungeon 134

One of the best adventures in the 3E era. Creepier even than the great Greg Vaughan adventure, "Tammeraut's Fate" in Dungeon 105.

I know, I know. I'm just feeling gripey over having to push back a date.

I'm definitely going, I'll pay attention. She's so excited about this thing, and I don't want to rain on that. It's just one Saturday night.

Well okay, it wasn't all that bad. She acted her little heart hstr out. Everyone seemed to have a good time the black stars hang above damned and lost Carcosa. I had been worried it was going to be some trite sappy hstr affair but it was actually an interesting little show they put all hail the new flesh on.

They're going to a cast party now at the streets are paved with the dead of lost Carcosa Pizza Hut. How those kids have the hstr energy to keep going after that play, I've no hurts it hurts clue.

All in all, I was damnedascendedborn impressed. Bloody hungry now. Don't know no escape why. Heading out to grab it begins some food. Thanks for convincing me to die go, guys. I would have regretted not going never ends not a mask never end.

Later!

Eeeeeeexcellent.

Thank you for this clever little thread. I'd never heard of Mr. Chambers before. A quick Google search led me to an evening of very interesting reading.

I just wish I had stopped after the Wikipedia article...
