Anyone Playing / Played Alan Wake for Xbox?

Sczarni

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to buy it or not, and I trust this community much more than most video game reviewers.

Played the first "chapter" so far.

It's pretty cool; like an Uncharted/X-Files/MYST crossover. The sound design is EXCELLENT, as is the atmosphere.

So far, so good!

Silver Crusade

I'm towards the beginning of Episode 5 now.

It's been really good. I have to admit I was disappointed that some of my very early expectations with the game didn't really pan out; a lot of the talk early in development painted it as a bit of a Twin Peaks-y sandbox to explore. What the game actually turned out to be is still very nice.

When it sold itself as a "psychological horror" game and mentioned its inspiration from Twin Peaks, I was expecting real intimate horror like Silent Hill. What it actually is is something that rests in a nice balance between Silent Hill's "Oh God please get me out of here" horror and Resident Evil's "OH @#$% OH @#$% HAHA AWESOME OH @#$%" horror and cheese.

The environments, swaying trees, and darkness effects are beautiful, and I'm in love with the setting now. The sound design is fantastic as well, along with the song selection. I pulling for some Portishead before this game ends, but even if there isn't any, the soundtrack fits the game like a glove.

Episode 4 contains the most awesome videogame moment of this year. Those who've seen it know exactly what I'm talking about. :D

I really do think the Anderson brothers made it to my top 10 videogame NPCs ever list.

The live-action sequences on the TVs can be pretty jarring, especially those Night Springs episodes. The nonexistant lip-synch doesn't help there. It's not so rough with the other things you see on the televisions in-game though.

Spoiler:
Damn bear traps.
