Duelist

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Liberty's Edge

I was looking over this prestige class see see about making a build for it. Having trouble making something that would remain useful in combat. What are good option for this class? It seems rogue is the best base class for it since you have to have your int and dex at a decent level. It may also need charisma is you plan to use the feint combat action to get sneak attack and precision openings. Seems to be a hard class to build for.

Could anyone who has used one give their build for it?

Fighter. Dervish Dance feat from Qadira to use a scimitar and gain dexterity bonus to damage.
Otherwise, you might want to focus on strength instead of dexterity. The Weapon Finesse feat might be wasted but you'll probably deal more damage that way.

On the other hand, I see little synergy between rogues and duelists (unless you allow offhand attacks with armor spikes to benefit from precise strike). Most rogues would be better off multiclassing with fighter.

Barbarian 2/ Rogue 4/ Shadowdancer 4/Duelist 10 -- Use elf and just go with moderate Str...

20 point buy:
Str 14 Dex 16 Con 12 Int 16 Wis 12 Cha 8 (after stat adjustment).

Feat wise I would look at: Nimble Moves, Acrobatic step, Improved Initiative, Cleave can be nice for attacks on the move. I would also recommend the feat that Jadeite recommended too.

Are the 2 levels of Barb for Fast Movement and Uncanny Dodge?

That and the Rage. Ocassionally it's useful to have as well as the slight HP boost, the expanded weapon list and the fact that it gives 4 skill points per level and during rage you get the bonus to will saves. Also it clears the medium armor so a mithral breastplate can be used.

Thought so. I am playing a Barb for the first time ever, and I have been pleasantly shocked at how useful that extra 10 feet of movement is.

So what Rage Power do you recommend? Not that I'm gonna play this build, but I'm curious, the more I see how other players htink, the better feel for the game *I* get.

Normally I don't mind that bite attack, but in this case I'm torn on the following:

No Escape -- it has limits but is generally useful.
Clear Mind -- Another roll on a weak save? Yes please.
Swift Foot -- Yeah I know "Just another five feet?" But how often have you missed that attack due to 5 feet?
Unexpected Strike -- Swing on someone just for moving 5 feet? I like that. Especially since the duelist levels will give combat reflexes.
Rouse Anger -- for times someone pops a ray of exhaustion before you can start the rage.

Plus the bite attack just doesn't seem to fit the long term character concept -- and I'm at my hear a role player, I'll willingly create a non-optimized character just to avoid conceptual incongruencies.

Having said that, what about Raging LEaper?

Useful but limited. I think it's great for an out of combat use, but the build above will have d.door from the shadowdancer levels and other means of making good jump checks so I'm a bit slower to use a single power to boost my jump checks (which is easy to do in the first place). Superstition is useful too but I hate saving against buffs, depends on the style of play but potentially very useful.

Good point, forgot about the SD levels. What about unexpected strike?
