Was Dungeon Master just screwing with the kids in the D&D cartoon?

I think he was jerkling them around personally......and I think that the cartoon was written by a pro-human political organization: Halflings were definately(as usual) woefully under represented.....

And don't give the LoTR arguement either.......Eliah Wood? come on....why couldn't they shrink down Vin Diesel to play Frodo? or Jason Stathem to play Samwise?

Because Elijah Wood is hot and the film was trying to show us that not all halflings are lumpen boobs? I for one applaud Jackson's decision to show us that halflings are beautiful too.

No, he needed someone to be able to bring his son back into the light and those kids were the only ones he had to rely on. It's covered well in the last episode's script.

No, ol' Dungeon Master was just a dominated pawn of Uni.

Beware Uni. Some say he still lives: lurking on messageboards, indiscriminately using Smite with Snark, and collecting Bella Sara cards from the corpses.

Is it just me or did anybody else want to see Uni being roasted over an open fire by a band of orcs? Uni wasn't as annoying as Jar Jar, but it's close.

Scared me for a moment....thought I was reading Uri.

You may resume.

I must be the only person who likes Jar Jar binks, probably because he reminds me of Snarf, the greatest hero ever created!

Dungeon Master so totally was screwing with the kids' minds. Ohhh you'll get home with this. Oh dang you were so close. Well have fun wandering the wastes until next week when I pop back up.

Its a generational thing. I'm from the older set that thinks Jawas should be included as a major star wars race.

Man I am part of that older generation, he he. Jawas are pretty cool, too. Remember how the one popped out and zapped R2 with his Ion pistol, just awesome!

In KOTOR, there wer some Jawas too, that Revan interacted with, but I forget exactly what he/she did there.

I seem to remember an appearance by the Cartoon characters in the DC Forgotten Realms comic..they were all a good bit older ..(Bobby was in his late teens)so it looks like they never did get home..

Interestingly DungeonMasters favoured colours of robe are also those of a certain Shadowdale dwelling Mage

There are prequels? Really? Can you give me a synopsis here, I haven't heard anything about them.

Were they a "direct to DVD" release or something?

I believe they were, universally panned because of a bit character, who had a funny accent. No one cared how Darth Vader came to exixt, he he

I think it was the wooden acting and the fact that, had Star Wars actually happened, someone would have put a cap in Anakin's whiny ass long before he could become a danger to anyone.

Really? He missed a shot with a blaster from across a cantina table. Even a stormtrooper's aim isn't that bad.

But to get back on topic, Dungeon Master may have been a good guy, but he was (to me) terribly creepy. I think it was those sideburns...

Vin Diesel could be shrunk, to play Belkar Bitterleaf, no problem.

There's a reference to the kids in Baldur's Gate 2. In the big magic store there are a couple paintings of them. Says they were all eaten by Tiamat.

Of course he was; why should he have been any different than any other DM? :P

Liberty's Edge

Do they ever come up with a rationale for his name?

I mean, we know why he's called Dungeon Master, but doesn't that name sound awfully tyrannical?

Why would some kindly, smiling, old (?)gnome(?) with sideburns bear a monniker that implies hot irons, thumbscrews, and a rack?

Dark Archive

Did anyone else ever wonder why Shiela's skirt ended just above Dungeon Master's eye level? :)

This libel against Uni is offensive.*

Also, the Dungeon Master was the biggest monty haul DM ever. Who the hell gives artifacts to a bunch of first level characters (and I'm being charitable in assuming they're even first level and not commoners dressed as adventurers - hell, the moron wizard couldn't even cast magic missile).

It wasn't Presto's fault! He was a 2nd Edition Sorcerer!

Well, Vin Diesel is hot as well, but would have been less hot as a hobbit. I like my men to be massive walls rather than skipping stones. ;)

I remember this one as well, though I can't remember which issue. I want to say it was some kind of compilation issue, but they were definitely spotted in the Forgotten Realms.

Indeed. I really wish that had been animated. I own the collected series that was released recently and they do a radio play version of that script. It was very cool.

That's right. Uni single-handedly took out Llolth in "The Box" episode. Most parties of seasoned adventurers can't do that.

You mean the D&D cartoon was a playtest for that crappy 2e that came out five years after the cartoon was canceled?

Figures they were 2e (i.e. the pansy edition) characters. They were so inept and annoying they would have all been eaten by giant frogs in 1e...

Just humor Eric... we all know there were only three Star Wars movies and no Holiday Special, and of course Han shot first. I have no idea what a "Jar Jar" is.

Yoda was hardly a bit character, and now people think he has a funny accent?! What's wrong with these people? Wait- they weren't making fun of R2, were they?!?!?! 'Cause them's fighting words.

Technically, I'm sure they could have done it. I just can't picture Sam-Stathem pining over Frodo-Diesel. Although, Frodo with Riddick's eyes woulda been cool.

Hey, I've been meaning to ask you... how did you score a cameo in the Despicable Me trailer?!?! You look weird with the pink-and-white colors instead of purple-and-white. And the Lee Press-On(tm) alicorn is just wrong.

To be fair, we don't know for certain that Dungeon Master bedded half of the of-age female characters that appeared on the show.

Otherwise we'd be certain it was Elminster.

(I had no idea until recently that Howard the Duck's creator wrote some episodes for D&D. Huh...)

I was more amused by 'ancient Diana' and her exposed breast actually.

As a rule I like redheads, but damn when I was a kid, Diana was hot.

Quasi-Pathfinder Eric so could have used the shield feats in Adventurers Armoury.

One would think that you'd have it in for Uni. He/she/it wasn't so much a mythological creature as an androgynous freak of nature.

I remember the episode with the other unicorns - I kept waiting for them all to gather round Uni and kick he/she/it to death for being such an embarassment. Even goring would have been too good of a death for that creepy little thing.
