Ahz snorts. Self appointed? No no, I was voted in! Ahz grins as he lays out his bedroll - though he will take 20 to work on Karrgs language instruction before sleep.
What sort of watch hours are we doing? With four we can do - single person on watch so 4 watches at 3 hours each, or double watches, which means 2 8 hour watches. Hm, maybe I can train Karrg to take a shift soon, or maybe yeti are nocturnal :).

Yes, each person give me a a single perception check if doing 3 hour watches, or 2 if doing 8 hour watches.
As far as the 'darkest' watch....here is a live web cam from my home town, Seward, Alaska: http://www.majormarine.com/webcam/
Note that Seward is south-central Alaska, so it isnt so extreme. Where the party is now is farther 'north' than that, but it is also only october or so? Anyway, right now in my home town you are lucky to get 6 hours of light a day, and the other 18 hours is all pitch black. Where the party is, is somewhat similar, but since its only October its getting more light - if average (12 hours) is in september, and it probably gets down to 4 hours at taht latitude in december, say october gives a good 9-10 hours of light. And 14-15 hours of pitch blackness. Which means....there isnt really a 'darkest' watch, because you are going to have to travel some in the dark unless you restrict your traveling to very little. I suggest using the light spells which are now cantrips so can be cast unlimitedly for traveling during the dark hours each day. Not very subtle, but much safer for humans thaqn stumbling through pitch black.

"I vote for the latter," Caydee says, finding a semi-comfortable place for vigil. "And yes, Ahz was voted in. Unless you want to try my cooking?" She grins fiendishly at that last comment.
I'm assuming, since Caydee's a ranger and I'm not, that she volunteers a good opinion about when to stop and stuff. I could revert to knowledge checks, since that would still beat my own guess...
anyway, here's two perception checks. Just use one if we end up agreeing on longer shifts.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

Yeah, I think double watches are pretty important. And, this will let us just travel in the light, though not a great distance every day. So eight hours long - hope your minds don't wander :). Hm, as there are 2 humans and 2 who see a bit better, lets keep one of each on a shift. So...Vardara take first shift with KD (about 5-1), and Fubar can help me whip up some poison during the second shift (about 1-9)?
perception check #1(1-5): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
perception check #2(5-9): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Looks like I'm just better at snowball fighting!

Vardara enjoys the cold, though the increasing snow reduces visibility. After what seems like roughly eight hours, the men are awoken to take their watch. Ahz spends the first hour of watch meditating, and recovers his used spells. Luckily, nothing appears during this time as Fubar seems to be having trouble waking up. Both the luck and the problems waking up end abruptly...1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6...as Ahz's eyes open wide and he jumps to his feet yelling Duck!!.
Initiatives please.

1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
The girls jump up, instantly awake, and see an ogre standing behind Fubar and getting ready to swing a small tree stump at his head.
Initiative order:
Fubar
KD
Ogre
Vardara
Ahz
You're up Fubar. Others, feel free to pre-state your intentions, thoguh realize sometimes things change during other actions.

On Varadara's turn.
Getting on her feet, Vardara will position herself to cast color spray on the Ogre without catching Fubar.Color spray, Will DC 15 or be stunned and blinded for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 rounds then stunned for 1 round.
Hellefire
KD jumps to her feet and lets her dream arrow (the one she sleeps with) fly....and it reaches for the stars.
Fubar swings widely and...(reroll for a possible fumble please F).
The ogre takes a mighty swing at Fubar's head...
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14...
but Fubars clumsy flailing seems to have moved him a bit from where the ogre swung.
About then a second ogre appears on the other side of Fubar.
Vardara - split second decision - you can cast color spray on the first ogre, OR on both ogres and Fubar. Choose now - nobody else say anything until she decides, no time for even chatter.

She'll cast the spell on only one Ogre.

Fubar, in my home game you'd be hurting, but as it is....
Fubar swings his flail mightily at the oge, overextending and just missing his own backside on the downswing...
Vardara gestures and colors appear around the first ogre...
...who loses his grip on his tree stump and stands there looking rathwer wobbly.
Ahz...
Hellefire
Fubar swings his flail over is head, bringing the spiked ball down, hard, on the shoulder of the new ogre. The ogre screams in pain and fury.
KD takes aim and sends an arrow flying at the first ogre, who is simply standing and blinking his eyes. The arrow cuts through the skin on his legs, drawing blood, though he seems too dazed to notice.
Because it appears that dazed and blinded each give a -2 AC penalty, and I don't see any reason not to stack them, that bow shot hit!
The new ogre glares at Fubar and brings his cluib crashing down...
...and connects squarely with the snow.
Vardara, you're up!
Hellefire
Vardara moves to a new vantage point and, repeating the words spoken previously, she points and another spray of colors shoots into the ogre's eyes...
...who manages to gaze directly into the pretty colors....and also loses his grip on his tree stump, which slides into the snow.
I'll let the roll for the first duration stand, but I'm rolling the second one in secret, because its technically not something you should know.
Ahz holds forth a finger, and a small burst of flame flies toward the second ogre...just as he slumps, and the bolt of fire goes wide left.
Fubar then KD, your turn!
