A couple of questions

Kingmaker

This is the first time I am running an adventure path and thus am kind of confused on some things and had some general questions.

1. The level progression; Is it slow medium or fast?
2. Some of the players want to run as non-core races (aasimar and hobgoblin) does this AP support that or is it preferred that they use standard races?
3. How long does the average adventure path take to run? (How many 4-5 hour sessions)
4. Does the AP indicate how much crafting time is alloted? In my home brew game I had some difficulties with Pc's crafting too much.

1. Medium
2. That's up to each individual GM, the AP assumes a party of standard races.
3. That again differs from group to group. In general it takes me about 4 3-4 hour sessions to finish a chapter. Kingmaker being more sandboxy may take more or less depending on your players.
4. Kingmaker is run mostly on your player's time-table, there's really nothing stopping them from hunkering down for a year and crafting away. At least in the early part of the campaign.

Thank you for the quick response.

One more questions; What ability score system is most commonly used in these games? 15 20 25 point buy?

I think the APs assume 15-20 point buy. But don't quote me on that. I've never run point buy ability scores.

My CoT game is using 25 point buy. I'm already on my 3rd character by 5th level, and they've all been warriors (fighter, paladin, and now another fighter). So I'd certainly use the epic point buy if you choose that option. The APs are pretty harsh, and my group is pretty sure the word Paizo means death in some language. Your PCs need all the edges they can get.

I think I let my players use 22 Point Buy, and the 2 Campaign Traits and I gave them 500 gp extra starting gold- for a total of about 750 gp/each.

They had no trouble with the bandits in the first two encounters (even though I added 5 hp to all bandits). (Notably however, Kressel got away from the second camp.)

They put a Megaloceros CR 6 to sleep and slaughtered it.

Of the three players (at Level 2), two were at negative hitpoints and one was at 1 hp when subsequently fighting each tatzlwyrm; if both wyrms had charged at once- all players would have been dead. Technically one player should have drowned, but I had that player "thrown to shore" by the wyrm to give it a fighting chance.

I suspect they might have some trouble with the mites.

We're just about finished the first AP and our characters were just 15 point buy with two traits. The only real difficulty so far was a CR6 random encounter when they were level 1 and resulted in a single PC death. They may have some difficulty with the capstone encounter but it's a case where tactics should prevail.

I believe it was mentioned somewhere that the APs are designed for medium advancement and 15 point buy even though most people play with more than that.

I do a 20 point buy. Most PBP games also do 20 point buy from what I see.
15 is abit spartan to me.
25 is abit too super-heroic to me.

For the most part, the 20 point buy got us (modified by racial mods)....

Elf Ranger- STR: 15 DEX: 16 CON: 12 INT: 12 WIS: 13 CHA: 10
Gnome Bard- STR: 8 DEX: 14 CON: 16 INT: 12 WIS: 13 CHA:16
Half-Elf Sorceress- STR: 10 DEX: 15 CON: 11 INT: 14 WIS: 10 CHA: 17
Human Fighter (not in the group yet)- STR: 17 DEX: 13 CON: 15 INT: 10 WIS: 12 CHA: 11

YMMV, I like the 20 point best. :)
