Great job!

+1. My favorite part is his dad giving him the sword. A nice twist.

I like him. The scar-faced mage reminded me a bit of the six-fingered man in The Princess Bride, which is a good thing. Given Jonagher's higher Diplomacy, he'll be better at making connections, but I'll try to add a little more glue to Origen's background too.

My impression is that our PCs know each other as recently met, friendly acquaintances. They haven't worked together in the field, but they have a generally good impression of each other's competence and reliability. Let me know if you intend otherwise.

Looking forward to tomorrow (and I promise I'll have a more detailed background up by then).

Background up (at last!). Let me know if you need me to tweak it, Doc.

Aside from the Pathfinder connection, I was figuring Jonagher and Origen may have a mutual interest in Azlanti lore. Origen wants to better understand so he can comprehend the changes happening to him, as well as the fate of his father's expedition. And Jonagher needs to put the pieces together to understand the book of Azlanti lore his mother died to keep hidden. In that regard, at least they've got a couple of hooks that can bring them together.

I decided to link Frik and Jonagher through his penchant for carousing and testing himself against priest of Gorum with his father's greatsword. Basically, Jonagher is just as likely to be found in the midst of a tavern brawl as Frik, but with a decidedly different strategy for surviving such fun. In addition, they both revere Cayden Cailean, share a CG alignment, and...eventually, I expect them both to want a way out of Absalom once Jonagher gets some clues into his book of Azlanti lore.

As for the others, if they've got an angle on joining or working with the Pathfinder Society, Jonagher can make a decent hook for bringing everyone together. I left his interactions with the Pathfinder initiates vague enough to include friendships with just about any of them.

It's very good, Eric. I believe the discovery of Saventh-Yhi's existence (or the hint of it at least) is an important part of establishing the storyline of The Serpent's Skull (pending the product release, of course). When those details come out, it's possible that some tweaking may be in order, but for now it's great. One minor fuss, the former Chelaxian colony is spelled Sargava not Sargavia.

Otherwise, wonderful!

Jonagher Witt wrote:
Jonagher's background is now complete. Let me know if you want to tweak anything. He's there to serve as "glue" for bringing everyone together however you'd prefer.

All I can say is great job, Neil. Lots of detail, and plenty of opportunity for hooks with any of the other PCs. Well done!

With that said, I believe the time has come to get this thing rolling! Look for a link to the IC thread very shortly. :D

And...It's on! (LINKY)

Let's make it a great game!

Sounds good, David. Looking forward to it. I can only post in the early morning and evening - can't access Paizo from work, dammit!

That stinks, but as long as you can get on sometime each day and participate, it shouldn't be an issue.

I just realized that I started the ball rolling without checking to see if the final cleanup had been done on Bran's sheet. No biggie, though. I'm sure we'll get it all smoothed out very soon.

Noted, thanks!

Fixed. Thanks for the kind words. I checked the new thread, and I think we're off to a good start!

Sounds good to me. Because of his mentor and father, Origen would likely have an interested non-expert's knowledge about Azlanti history (i.e., enough to follow Jonagher when he discusses it, but not enough to identify artifacts himself). Origen's focus would likely be on Azlanti magic such as Jonagher's mysterious book.

I agree! The intro's for Jonagher and Torden are everything I could have hoped for! Keep up the good work.

Frik's background is done. I didn't reference any other characters so it will be easy to work me in to their background. It isn't a secret. In fact he tells everyone his "hook" nearly as soon as he meets them.

I figured I'd use this bit of direction to assume Jonagher already knows about Frik's brother.

Leofrik Forthwind wrote:
I can change up things as needed to fit with other backgrounds, but Frik doesn't really have a Pathfinder connection, but he's willing to be involved with them to help further his goals.

I'm going to go with the theory that Frik and Jonagher became fast friends over the course of several nights of drinking, philosophizing about the tenets of Cayden Cailean, and helping one another out in one of those tavern brawls Frik occasionally gets himself into.

Also, I noticed you took the Dirty Fighter trait which grants a bonus against flanked opponents. Considering Jonagher greatly benefits from flanking as well (because he's a rogue), I can see these two having a mutually beneficial fighting style, helping one another out by setting up flanking situations for each other. Almost like a Gray Mouser and Fafhrd kind of relationship. I'll be the "lightning" and Frik can bring the "thunder" with his greatsword.

I always struggle writing in the present tense--so used to writing in the past. Please forgive some minor changes in tense until I get more used to it :)

So far, this looks to be a good group, I could write here all day, though I hate to post too much until Bran gets a chance.

Torden Ironcask wrote:

It's okay. I do prefer third person present tense, but I won't go crazy over occasional lapses.

Yeah, it's a fine line to walk. Active participation is wonderful, but I don't want hedgeknight to get home and find 30 posts to have to wade through before he even gets in on things. That might be...overwhelming.

We'll just mark him down as the strong, silent type. :-D

Hey, works for me! :)

I've enjoyed all of the posts so far tremendously, so don't slow it up too much! We'll work out any pacing issues as we go.

Give the DM's avatar, Origen has something to say.

It occurs to me that given Origen's background, I think that it makes more sense for one of his languages to be Azlanti rather than Draconic. He'll probably plan to pick up Draconic and Polyglot when he can.

Would that change be okay?

If it helps any, Jonagher took Draconic as a language to tie together his background of studying spellbooks and other arcane lore. I also plan on having him take a rank in Linguistics at 2nd level and picking up Polyglot as a new language prior to Serpent's Skull. The half-elf is meant to have a bit of a scholarly inclination anyway. So I think it makes sense.

Sure, I don't have a problem with that.

Like you, I had planned to pick up Polyglot both for flavor and for practicality. I don't want to have to depend on interpreters when we're in Sargava, although it might be helpful if the Mwangi believe that we need an interpreter. ;-)

Things will change in June. I work for the school system and summer vacation begins June 8, so by the second week of June, I'll be able to post any time during the day through the summer.

My rate will (or at least should) be a bit more spotty long-term because of finals, family commitments, and the need to bill hours, but as promised, I will do one each weekday and more when I can. It's very fun so far.

As a PbP benefits of angst, Origen can just brood when I'm not available. ;-)

Wow, guys, 13 new posts since I was last online! Let it not be said that you're anything but enthusiastic. I skimmed over things, but I'll be digging in for some proper responses in a bit. However...

Glad that you liked it. I think that Origen just got a new quirk.

Everyone, I've started collecting some campaign resources under this alias' profile. Currently, there is the start of an NPC guide, and a link to the map of the Blakros Museum (for easy reference).

My intent is to make the profile a 'living' document, to help keep the campaign organized and make it easier for the players to keep track of things. I'll post here with major updates over time.

Stellar idea, mate! Thanks!

By the way, is bolded dialog the preferred convention? I think that we're evenly split so far, and I can do it either way.

Bold is my personal preference, but it's not a big deal either way.

"Bold it is!" says Frik deferentially.

By the way, I like Frik's new avatar. He seems more charming.

Doc:

Since you asked for notice about sheet-tweaking, I added Origen's Concentration bonus (+4) and linked his spells to the PRD descriptions. I also added his suspension from the Pathfinders and his dislike of apes to the fluff.

My daughter Miriya was born this morning at 2:13 a.m. All are well, but I'm a bit busy with our other kids today.

I will check the turn again in the afternoon, but if Origen is stopping the action for more than an hour or so, please NPC him for the round. If possible, he will avoid rays against crazy humans, as he hopes to save them.

Sleep . . . .

Wonderful news, Eric! Yes please, get some sleep, and care for your family. The game will be here as you're able to check in.

hedgeknight, do you think you could use the dice roller built in here on site? It's just easier for me if I don't have to click links over to Invisible Castle.

Male Human Cleric of Cayden Cailean 1

This is a horribly silly question, but how does the dice expression work here? Is there a link or something I can go to to read about it? I'm so used to invisiblecastle that I've not looked elsewhere.

This isn't hedgeknight, but I've been doing the same.

When you're on the posting page, look below the window you use to type your post. There's a "BBCode tags you can use:" with a spoiler button. If you expand that spoiler, it'll show you every tag (including the "dice" tag) with examples of how to use it.
