What happens to a summoned creature if the sumoner dies or loses consciousness?

Rules Questions

I was DMing the other day, and the wizard cast a mount spell, followed by haste to pursue a target. He was ambushed a few rounds later, and went down to -3 hp. Does the summoned mount still hang around for the duration of the spell or disappear? What about in the case of any other summoned creature?

Like any spell, conjuration (summoning) spells persist until the duration expires.

The summoned creature sticks around and follows the casters instructions to the best of it's abilities. The caster can no longer direct it though.

Yep. This is particularly amusing when an invisible PC dies and the cleric can't find him for a CLW. :) Or a levitating character goes unconscious or dies and the PCs can't get to him!

That's one advantage of chaneling, invisible creatures are fair game.
