Hey all, I Was just looking through the Corebook, and i found that apparently you can add Treasure maps as part of a Treasure horde.
I usually just slide a map into the villian's loot, as it sometimes makes for some great plot advancement. ( congradulations, you've found the deeds to a castle in a town not to far away from here.... badnews... it's in ruins... and secretly full of illithids)
I however wanted to give the party a little taste of this before all the brain slurping goodness with a map that leads them to a completely non-essential dungeon crawl.
This being a non essential dungeon... i want to give the party an option of selling the map to this dungeon for some gold if they dont want to actually do the Crawl.
I was just wondering how much a map would go for, so i'd know the selling price, as well as how much it should be worth in the horde.

I don't think there are any guidelines. I would suspect the value is based largely on how reliable the source of the map is and how large and well guarded the potential treasure is.
If it's a map to a well known pirates stash on a deserted island with a high probability of accuracy then it might be worth a decent amount. If the location is particularly dangerous or the reward low then it might not be worth anything.
Edit: So just wing it.

Whatever the market will bear. Seriously, even with art objects, the market price can (and will) vary wildly - just think of the art auctions in the real world in the last few decades. So a treasure map that is credible can fetch any price from the right buyer - if you find an adventurous noble keen on having a daring adventure, he might just spend a fortune on that map.
As a buyer, I would probably use some divination to make sure that it is not a fake map - or the seller could offer this for a higher price.

Hmmm, that gives me an idea for a Cool NPC staple in larger, adventure serving towns.
The Cartography guild.... or just a simple Cartographer..... who sell and buy maps to well known ( and sometimes unknown) adventuring sites. Using a combination of Divination, Research, and Scouting, they could hold a monopoly for high risk Dungeoners.
" now you have the map to find the tomb of Krezidac.... but do you want this tablet, depicting the proper arrangement of the six crystal statues? ....... it'll be 2300 gold please...... tell you what.... you buy this scroll containing the last mad ravings of Krezidac before the Green Rot killed him.... and I'll knock 900 of the asking price.."
