Pathfinder Animal Companions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Do druid animal companions not receive racial bonuses to skills that normal animals of its type normally receive. For example, a deinonychus gets a +12 bonus on jump checks (in addition to its normal acrobatics check of +10 for a total of +22), but under the animal companion listing this bonus is not listed. Did I miss a rule somewhere that grants animal companions the normal skill bonuses of animals of its type, or were these left out for game balance reasons?

I was just looking for an answer to this, and found it Here. Quoted below.

Actually... animals don't get their bonuses to skills like this as written. An animal companion's stats are built off of different rules than those intended to be used as monsters.

That said, I don't think it'd hurt much to go ahead an apply the bonuses to skills as presented in the Bestiary if you want.

The Exchange

Well, the deinonychus has a speed of 60ft, and for every 10 feet above 30 your speed is you get +4 to acrobatics checks made to jump. I think that's actually where the +12 comes from, the rest is from skill ranks and dexterity (also, acrobatics is a class skill for animals).
